The only time I've ever lost my mask was coming into shore after snorkelling in less than optimal conditions.
A massive wave came up on me while swimming in, and ripped my mask clean off my face. I only saved it with a death grip in my mouth on the snorkle.
My girlfriend at the time got her mask ripped off by the same wave and we only found it because the floatation bobber on the snorkle kept it on the surface.
It was funny afterwards, but sucked at the moment after being pummeled by a massive swell (N. Shore Oahu in october, we knew we were tempting fate)
