I am getting pretty anxious to get back to Marineland's Reefs, so I decided to take a drive out that way and see what type of progress has been made. The Lola forecast was showing bad conditions, but surprisingly things were diveable. Not pristine, but definitely decent enough. Any news on when they will start letting us back in:confused:

The temporary fence was still in place, blocking the way down:

The pathway over top of the drainage ditch seems usable, but not yet complete:

The trail leading down to the beach looks nice and there are even signs of the Long Point trail getting finished "upper lefthand side of image":

Conditions at 120 reef "a little bit of surge on shore, but the reef area was flat flat flat":

Long Point had a little surge, but was also diveable:

Talked with Jon Lee today, another week or two, he wouldn't commit, Ha! The dirt bridge is in place but not the new bridge over the beach bio swail. Grand opening is still slated for June 1.

Conditions are exceptionally crappy today, with brown/green water out about a quarter mile, and up and down the local coves points, were not even gonna boat dive it, 'bout the worst I've seen.

We looked yesterday and it was surprisingly diveable, especially considering the big surf at Honeymoon and CTC. It looks as it they have abandoned any work on the road and beach for the past week. :(

From what I could see yesterday the beach area looks mostly filled in and they are working away on the landscaping. There hasn't been much active work at the beach level in the last few days. It gets more and more green everyday though. The snack shack in enclosed and mostly finished I think. The roads and parking lots are complete and it is torture having to wait!

The water seems fairly clear but there are a few patches of muck.

Any bets as to how long it will take us to stop calling it OML? I've got $5 on 32 years. :D

I've been trying to get people to stop calling it OML for the past 20 years. :)
It will always be Marineland to me as long as I can visit the marine life there.

FTR, The park was called Marineland of the Pacific, later shortened to Marineland. It was never called MarineLand, Marine Land, Old Marineland nor OML. Thank you for your cooperation.

I was wondering when it was going to open up again. Honestly, I'm glad it's not open this weekend or next weekend cause I would not be able to go out and enjoy it....but hopefully when it does open up, I'll be able to make it out right away!

I suppose if a "new" Marineland had opened in a different place after the "old" one closed calling Marineland "OML" might make sense. Must have been named by some "new" divers.

We were up there Sunday for some hiking,(we hike all over PV), and the trail is closed, hopefully to open on June 1. I have a question for you guys. Is there good skin diving/snorkeling in the Marineland area? It will always be Marineland to me. I ride my bike by there at least once a week to check out the surf and vis.
I usually go to Laguna, either shaws, divers, or fishermans cove and the skin diving there is good. La Jolla cove is a bit of a drive as I live in Carson.
MaxBottomtime I love your photo bucket pictures......great shots.

Marineland has some great free-diving spots. The 120 reef area is nice and shallow with lots of great reef structure to explore. You could also stay in the main cove and swim out towards Long Point. This area gets deeper faster, but still has some good areas within depth limits for free-diving / snorkeling.

City Council tonight:

1. New Flag Poles, (1) 35' and (2) 30's: Yes

2. No bond required for future Underground Utilities work.

3. Public SNACK BAR HOURS will only be open when Hotel has requirements (adult pool guests are present) to keep it open. Odd hours, maybe only 11 to 3'ish or less. Test period.

4. Terranea will likely be required to keep "clean" the remodeled Pt. Vicente restrooms per previous maintenance agreements.

5. Dog bowl built into the free showers. Cool.

Lowes also asked the city of RPV for a "loan", very interesting. Times are tough. Interiors look nice! Golf looks fun! It may be until June's Grand Opening til they let us back in.
