If the boat owner will not pay the 700 pesos a month to keep their boat in the marina then kick them out. There are boats willing to pay that have no marina slip.

Or seize their boat.

If the taxi driver has to pay to get past the shack,,,,,,it's going to bring a whole new meaning to the 'Bag-Drag' when he drops you off at the road.
I doubt they will collect at the guard shack. They will figure something out. In Cancun they check each person before they go onto the pier if they have pier bracelet. They also have parque Marino checking if you have bracelets before you depart too. Pretty efficient way they do things in Cancun. Each bracelet is scanned too so they know the numbers of what goes on.

I think the Palace dock access charge is an outlier. Many (most?) Cozumel dive ops are not quartered at hotels and their business models depend on picking up divers at their hotels; adding US$25/day to what it costs to dive is not sustainable for them.

BTW, are we sure the Palace daily dock charge is US$25 and not 25 pesos?

Remember when everyone said it was an outlier when one hotel started charging a fee?

You are not seeing the big picture. The hotels are implementing a dollar. Now the marina is implementing a dollar. If the people in hotels can pay a dollar, why not those going to the marina?

Look to see every hotel and dock move to the same.

Then look for everyone to raise it once someone else raises it.

My "big picture" vision is fine, but thanks for your concern. The fee itself is not an outlier but the amount being charged is. The Palace clientele is somewhat different from that at many other hotels on Cozumel; they typically have more money to spend and are less likely to be divers. What the traffic will bear is different.

The Palace is not the first hotel to discourage dive ops other than the resident one from serving divers; Scuba Club Cozumel flatly prohibits it and has for years. Whether other hotels will follow suit is yet to be determined, but I do not think it is likely, at least not in the short term; there are far more Cozumel dive ops that do not have an on site hotel location than those that do.

The Marine Park fee also went from $2.50 per day per person to $5.

For $35? Only in Canada would they do such a thing. Hahaha.

The slip fee at the marina is only $35/mo? In any event, it would ensure it gets paid. To turn it around, what dive op is going to lose access to their boat over $35?

It's average 700 pesos a month. I do know of one person whose boat was told to get out after not paying for a long time. His slip was quickly filled by someone willing to pay.

We just got back. They are selling the boats bracelets for fonatur now. One of the fonatur guys was coming around taking a little tag of the end of the bracelet for everyone on the boat. So you have to keep buying them and not reusing them.

People are going to need more than 2 arms for all the bracelets.
