well I am a tech at my shop and I service Mares, scubapro, Sherwood, Aqualung, Zeagle, oceanic and cressi. now the old mares stuff was great, don't get me wrong there. No complaints with the olde models except when they stopped making kits for certain of their regs. Also, faqir enough they have had their issues with recall...I don't kno, maybe this is just in my area or in Canada but all the shopds that I know the service Mares around me do not sell mares gear. just because of the nightmare their new gear is becoming. Both from a tech perspective (donno bout where you are but in Canada getting parts is lie trying to pull teetm an alligator) and more retail as well. I mean look at their fins. The quattro used to be a fabulous fin, now we don't sell them due to the fact that 70% of them do not last more then 50-60 dives (they tear where the rubber meets the plastic no matter how well you treat them) and we have people left right and center complaning as a whole about the Mares product. So call me jaded, but Mares' gear is lacking the quality that it once had. Futhermore after digging into which companies are hurting from the crash in the economy, so the decine in the quality in some of their gear may be due to this....who knows. All I know is that Aqualung/Apeks gets my votes her 10 out of 10.
Again, just my opinion.
Cheers
Given the choice, I would not buy either. Aqualung/Apeks has really pulled up their sock and ll their regs are easy to service and the new line breaths (in my opinion, having used the Abyss, proton metal, Mk25T S600T, Legend ACD, Titan Supreme ACD, XTX 200) alot easier and they back their products a lot better. Also from a tech perspectivethey are much easier to service
