Dave, 'to add, always warmer than about 23 Celsius.' Does it mean that i cant dive with the scubapro mk17/r395 in cold water ?? thanks

No, the MK17 would be a fine cold water reg. Not sure of the limits of the R395, you'd need to check up on that but I'd be pretty sure it would be fine in anything you'd dive in a wetsuit.

Has the R395 got an adjustable knob on the side? And the R295 dosent. right.?

Yep, it's really good for making the reg free flow at the surface while doing absolutely nothing underwater :D

I mean you can't really tell the difference underwater when you adjust the knob, but at the surface, if you set it to 'dive' rather than 'surface' it's real sensitive to free flowing when you're moving around.

In other words I see it as a useless addition, nothing worth worrying about.

I think you put a similar post elsewhere
If you intend to spend money for a MK17 (one of the best cold water first stage on the market) you should go the extra mile and get at least an S555 or better an S600 or even G250 second stage
The Mares rover is half price of your Scubapro option so really not comparable

SORRY ABOUT THAT... just didnt know id get all this feedback. :)

Go for the G250V 2nd stage, it's MUCH better than the R395. You'll get the full performance of your MK17, which is one of the premium 1st stages on the market today. Or, just buy it with the R395, no octo, then use that as your octo and buy a used G250 (old style) or D400, get that rebuilt, and use it for your primary 2nd.

You can spend the money on the S600 if you want, but if you're spending lots of money, go for the new A700. It's a metal case reg, SP's new answer to all of us raving about the old 109/156/balanced adjustable that in some ways is SP's best regulator ever. (my opinion)
