For best aesthetics, print with the face up and use a multi-material printer with PLA as support (peels right off of TPU)
@James79 I do, the interior parts shouldn't be a big deal as it wouldn't be seen. Any who, thanks for reaching back out!

Sorry, been crazy busy lately. I'm aware of 2 in the wild that only had positive reports, and one tester who had no functional issues, but wasn't impressed with the interior finish (where supports were, if you're familiar with 3d printing). If you have a printer that will do TPU I can send you the STL...

Respectfully,

James
Hi James, just registered to be able to contact you. I am in need of the same part and was wondering if you would help me. I am personally not familiar with 3d printing but a friend of mine does. Could I get the STL as well? Let me know. Sorry for being so direct in asking the question. Thx Rick

Hi James, mate sorry to pester you but I was wondering if you have any of these printed, defiantly not worried about the internal look as it doesn't affect it, I can also get them printed if you're willing to share the file.

Cheers Mick

Oh bugger this means I'm goign to have to get a new Octopus for what is a small broken part :-( - Any recommendations from the group stay away from Mares now?

No. This was a one time issue with a material that was sold to the scuba industry that took several years before the degradation showed up. it only affected this single model at Mares (the plastic Proton second stages). Several of the manufacturers used the same material and had similar issues.

You can certainly try the printed part. It works great on mine.

Hi my friend any update on your findings?

You could probably get the part 3D printed at one of the “Maker” workshops/clubs in the UK. The “program” for the 3D printer is in the Thingiverse link above.

Try Google for 3D printing near you …

I don't know anything about these folks, but there is now a source for replacement Proton (and Proton XL) purge covers. They are 3D printed and are $25.
