The problem is in the internal parts. At some point in time Mares decided to switch from a metal part to a plastic part. The plastic part will get a grove worn into it within a few dives and no longer makes proper contact.

Acording to Mares there is no problem so they wont replace the part.:upset: My LDS offered to pay for the original metal parts to fix the problem but Mares will not send them.

After seing a friends blow at 117' on our AOW course I put mine in a box in my closet (best place for it).

Go with the Poseidon or Scuba Pro.

WOW Mikeyb that sounds VERY VERY scary. I think I'm gonna be putting the whole thing on Ebay and I'm gonna go with the Poseidon jetstream/odin, and octo.

Is the Nikos a Mares? How east does it breath? Is it Nitrox compatible?

I think any reg is Nitrox compatible up to about 40%. One will get longer life with O-rings specially designed for Nitrox vs. O-rings used for normal air regs - but you don't NEED them. Correct me if I am wrong - but that is MY understanding.

And the SP R190 would be compatible with the MR12 1st stage?

OK Cool.Thanx Scoobie.

See what others say - as I'm NO reg expert. I know many manufacturers state in their owners manuals that one should not mix and match differant brands of regs - but I think that is more of a 'sales ploy' than anyhting else.

Its kind of like the market is seeing Nitrox regs and regular air regs. Just about every reg will handle up to 40% Nitrox w/o having to do anything special. Again, sales and marketing. Why not sell a guy TWO sets of regs if we can - a Nitrox dedicated set AND a 21% air set. MONEY.

Whats next - Nitrox compatible FINS and MASKS?
