Ah, finally got my account approved!

Hey all, I'm going to be in Cozumel from March 27th to April 3rd.

I'm a 22 year old who just moved from NYC to LA 6 months ago, and am taking a solo trip down to Cozumel to do some scuba diving. I've only been a vacation diver (Great Barrier Reef, Hawaii, and Bermuda), but I'm really excited to spend the week in Cozumel focusing on nothing else. I've read up a lot on this board about dive ops and accommodations but still can't wrap my head around what to pick. My options right now are:

Accomodations:
Blue Angel Resort
Casa Martillo
Hotel Villa Blanca

Dive Ops:
Blue Angel
Dive with Martin
Papa Hogs

I think that all of these options are relatively similar in size and quality (my research was largely anecdotal), so my questions are:

- What combination of dive op/hotel from above would be the easiest in terms of logistics? (Closest geographically)
- Are there any on the list above that one would advise against?

Thanks for the help guys...hoping I can meet some of you guys and make some friends. Hoping there will be some other young-spirited solo divers in town as well.

Charley
All three of your dive ops get plenty of SB business and I don't recall any complaints. Blue Angel Resort and Blue Angel sounds like an easy combo. I don't think you'd want to stay at Blue Angel and dive with a different op since they're already there. They're a bit south of town, but it's not a bad walk and taxis abound. Given their presence on SB, I can't believe you'd have a bad experience - they have a reputation to keep up!

And when you get back home and still have the diving bug in you, check out some local diving. It ain't Florida, but there's still plenty of pretty things to see and the water isn't too freezing in the summer, you just need a thicker wetsuit.

Having a great time down here so far! Day one (Saturday) was pretty hectic with the overnight flight, check in to the Villa, trip to the Mega, check in with the dive shop and then a great fish dinner at Casa Denis. After all that we were pretty whipped out, so it was off to bed early. Day two they put me on the bigboy boat and I got to dive Maricaibo and Paseo de Cedral. Other than a few buoyancy issues with the new gear and always being the first one low on air ( kind of a recurring theme for me) the dives were awesome! Then it was back to the Villa to watch my wife finish up her confined water dives and then into town to Kellys for the St. Patricks day party followed by dinner at El Pique. What a great day! Today I was back on the bigboy boat and we got to dive Punta Sur Sur and Delilah ( still the first low on air but getting better) and when I got back to the Villa we found out my wife was going out on an afternoon boat to do her first open water dives. She was a little nervous, but Ernesto is a great instructor so she will be fine. It will be great to get her certified so we can finally dive together. Still have five more full days here, I expect they will all be as great as the ones so far!

So let me get this straight. You have 0-24 dives according to your profile. You checked in with the dive shop on day one. On day two they took you to Maracaibo.

Are you joking, not being serious about your dive experience, or were you diving with some wacky cowboy dive op? Seriously.

Wow! The shore dive off Villa Aldora was awesome! Who knew?...ok some of you knew, maybe I wasn't paying attention. Having a sandwich before the afternoon boat. All the new gear seems to be working and I'm ready to roll!! :D

Joe- who is this Craig and why have I not heard of these famous margarita?! lol Having fun yet?

I've been telling people about that for years now. Its also a great way to off gas at 10 feet your last day. its like doing an hours long safety stop with lots of stuff to look at.
Craig will be at the Villa, we'll either be under the Palapa or in the breezeway telling lies and talking about the day's adventures.
Yes, We're having BIG fun!!!:banana::banana:
See ya soon!

Blue Angel 2 for 1 cocktail hour 4-6:30. I'm heading down tomorrow, Wednesday :) Who are we picking up on the way down?

What a great day! After a nice breakfast on the beach, met up with some new friends to hand out the most coveted Girl Scout cookies I muled down. We met at Woody's, had a nice lunch, a few beers, some fun conversation and before we knew it the day was almost gone LOL

After a little shopping we hit Mega for some water, then stopped at Ohana's to pick up some pizza to take back for dinner. What an AWESOME place!! Be warned though...the deep dish pizza takes 45 minutes. We couldn't wait so we took home some kabobs, quesadillas, and shrimp. Yummy! The owner Matt was very hospitable, sat and chatted with us while we waited. Nice guy. I really love the vibe of that place. We will definitely head back for the pizza when the kids get in, I'll report back. :)

After dinner on the porch, settling in to get some sleep before heading out for some diving tomorrow. The weather is great. Life is great.

Great day diving, 2 for 1 drinks in the pool and then dinner at Otates (Blue Angel has been postponed), topped off with live music at Woody's (Louis? He was awesome!) all made for another great day in paradise :) Tomorrow is Thursday, and you know what THAT means! La Perlita 2 for 1 lionfish dinner :)

Looking forward to Friday, another dive day and a friend on the island has made us all reservations for dinner at Buccanos! Our big night out before the kids arrive.
