Anyone who witnessed your falls should have counseled you to (literally) chill out for a while had you attempted to dive.

we were all hot and un happy.
after the 2nd fall i was on my way back up and had my 3rd fall.. now that i look back i did make the right call and
im happy that i called the dive .. i would have sucked all my air down in no time and then i would have been shi* out of luck. i talked to the other 4 peple that did do the dive ,,
and they all said they should of called the dive the same time i did ......

You did the right think calling the dive. A few weeks back I was a bit worn out from the heat that I had a tough time fighting the current at Pebble.

Soggy is exactly correct--you can call the dive at any time for any reason. Whenever I dive with a new buddy I always try to remember to go over the u/w hand signal for 'call the dive' for we hit the H20. I usually use the cut-throat/slash signal followed by the two thumbs up. No reason needed in or out of the water. You did the right thing and there's nothing wimpy about it.

Call the dive is thumbs up. Throat slash is OOA and indicates a life threatening emergency. If you give me the throat slash, you'll have a regulator in your face pronto and I'll be pissed if it wasn't a drill or a real OOA.

Ah yes the handsignalls...though it was a fist (indicating a problem) - then the thumbs up.

No, a fist is a command signal that means "Hold. Don't move." It is to be returned with a closed fist. The person receiving the signal should remain still until they receive an OK signal.

Thumbs up means dive over. It is also a command signal, to be returned with thumbs up. No further explanation is necessary, the dive is over. You can talk about it on the surface.

45 yard hike to the H2O in full gear. No way I would want to do that hike and then dive. If it is an option put on your gear right at the waters edge. Calling a dive's never a big deal. Scuba diving is not to prove how macho you are that's what sky diving is for, but you can call those dives without question also and no one thinks you are a wimp for it.

i thought a fist meant "danger"?
and an open hand meant "wait" and an open hand in up down position "slow down".
yeah, 2 thumbs up means "over and out" as far as i know.

try not to invent too many new signals, coz if you're gonna be diving with someone else someday he/she might not understand and it could get dangerous.
why not buy a slate and write down any special commands.
