I spent about a week at Malapascua in late february. We had thresher shark on 3 out of 5 early morning dives which seems to be the average on Monad Shoal. We did Kimud Shoal as well with hammerheads for 2 out of 2 dives, not sure how long that season lasts though.

Malapascua was great, best diving we did in our three weeks. We'll be going back next year.

wow...great! I hope the hammers will still be around..haha...heard they only appear between Feb/March period.

But there again, I dive at LayangLayang before in May last year and their sighting started in March. ase on the geographical layout..am doubtful but hopeful though...

By the way, not been to Philippines, what else can I do there? Is it far from the town or something? Thought of walking around during non-diving days though.

You mean Malapascua? It's an island that you can walk around in about 3 hours. Not much to speak of doing other than diving and hanging out at the beach. It's a 3-4 hour taxi ride and a 45 minute banka ferry ride from Cebu City on Cebu Island which is the second largest city in the Philippines. There are some nice beach front hotels with nice imported sand beaches on Mactan Island which is the location of the Cebu International Airport about a thirty minute taxi ride from Cebu City.

Preferred dive shop there?

Anyone been to Malapascua lately? Is this still a hot spot for Thresher sharks?

Thanks,
// Magnus;

I dived with Sea Explorers and can highly recommend them. Reasonable group sizes, experienced guides, plenty of options for day trips every day, clean facilities and a solid security policy. The rental equipment seems to be good as well, I brought my own however.
