I know that any lube for tank o rings needs to be Nitrox safe etc (if used with Nitrox !). I am looking for a general purpose non petroleum lube to use on my computer cap Orings (petrel) .. This stuff seems to be non petroleum based and safe. Anyone ever tried this? or is familiar with this product?

well so it only has to be o2 clean lube if it's being exposed to high partial pressures of O2. For that tank valve that is partial pressure filling of any kind, or for deco bottles with >40% O2. The regs only need O2 lube if being used with mixes over 40% which are deco bottles only. Silicone lube is perfectly fine for all o-ring use unless you are in that requirement above.

this should be your generic lube for use with non O2 compatibility. It's great lube, and is one of the standards if not the standard lube for generic scuba use.

I'm a bit surprised by their "green" formulation which is PTFE with aramid fibers. Aramids are extremely strong and heat resistant polymers (Kevlar is one type of aramid), but in my experience having even very very fine fibers near an o-ring is a very Bad Idea. Fibers across the o-ring guarantee the seal won't hold vacuum well (my main application of o-rings outside of SCUBA), and fibers on o-rings can't be that good for holding high pressure, either.

I note the manufacturer is addressing o-ring longevity in pool and spa applications, which don't use very high pressures as far as I know.

And I hope no one reads "PTFE" and thinks "O2-compatible"; aramids are organic polymers and would likely combust under high pressures of pure O2. (It's true that Nomex - the stuff in fire-resistant suits - is also a type of aramid, but I doubt it is resistant to HP O2.)

Their plain old silicon lube should be fine for non-O2 clean applications, tho.

I only keep one type of lube in my scuba toolbox. I use tribolube/viton orings on everything makes for only one type of orings to worry about and I can never use the wrong lube. Besides one tube of tribolube goes a long way.

What does your Petrel Manual say? Couple of my computer manuals (non-Petrel) say silicone grease very sparingly or if oring looks dry.
