The 79' dive boat Conception.. was stolen early this morning. ...apparently the Conception ran aground on Vandenberg Air Force Base while the Coast Guard was in pursuit by helicopter.

Apparently the thief was not a good pilot. The Conception struck three boats while leaving harbor, sinking one! Then it ran aground at Vandenberg, probably intentionally. The damage to the Conception was increased as it was towed back to harbor in rough water -- the bow was essentially gone by then. It is expected repairs will be completed around August 2005.

My dive club had a Channel Islands dive trip on Conception planned for August, and we will have to shift to a sister boat.

Holy mackerel, batman. What a strange incident. I love the Truth Aquatics boats.
