Lung expansion injury?

If you develop any kind of respiratory issues or sinus infections over the next 10 to 14 days, make sure you pay attention to them and do not dismiss the symptoms.

If I inhaled fresh water my main concern at this time would be possible infection due to the water contents.

Dan called got back to me, nice thing the DR actually called me back instead of replying to my email.

The DR was not sure the ER Doctors diagnoses was completely right, he was pleased to hear my o2 count was higher than average and passed the lung test. He did suggest that i did aspirate water into the lungs which seems to have cleared up.

He Referred me to a local dive doctor to follow up, They did say that if it turns out to have been an expansion injury i can expect to be given the suggestion to stay off compressed air for 3-6 months.

Speaking with the DAN DR, my own DR and a local paramedic who has been on site for several scuba related injures and he agree I did not show the signs of a lung injury but more the signs of sever chocking trauma.

Glad you weren't hurt more and hope your recovery is quick.

This does give a good example of why it's good to call DAN as early as possible. If one feels the need for emergency treatment, get it - but encourage the treating medical team to call DAN when possible. I call them from my cell phone on the way to the doctor at the latest myself. It's a free call and they will consult you even if you are not a member.

I agree and i think that is why they prescribed me the inhaler to prevent it. I know the primary use of this inhalers is for inflammation.

You don't carry a DAN card, or wear a DAN Tag? I would be a member and wear a tag on my gear even if I did not insure there.

DAN numbers are a really good idea to have in a cell.

I do when i dive,

I have my DAN insurance details in my wet notes and my card with my cert cards in my log book in my dive bag.

Unfortunetly i was on my way to work with my dive gear at home when i decided it. however i have requested a replacement card which i will be keeping in my wallet and programming additional info into my phone.

Michael, I hope that you will wait to dive until after your appt with the dive medicine Dr, since that is when it seems you will know whether there was a lung expansion injury. I know you like to dive all winter, but you may have to refrain for a few months. Well, hey, you get to spend lots of time with your sweet little daughter...

Got a call from my Family Doctor, His wife is also a doctor and her specialty is pulmonary. Went in for a review of my test and she had me do yet another breathing test and said that i have not suffered any sort of lung trauma. She did say she could see some inflammation in my tonsils and redness in my sinus cavity.

My doctor said that on her consult he would be more than willing to sign off on any medical releases that might be needed if i take instruction from someone who has heard of what happened and request it.

Glad everything is okay. DAN helped me when I had my accident and they called the Emergency Room Doc right away and saved me a trip to the chamber. I won't dive without their info. available

Felt great all week.. NO issues or side effects of any sort.

Got into see a Pulmonary specialist, all is good and got the okay to get back in the water.

Got a nice dive in to day 70 feet, 50 mins 50 degree's and completed our dive with no issues and felt better than ever.
