Since no one seems to have any knowledge of my current Reg. in a previous post I've been looking seriously at buying a new Reg. I have read all about people who like Apex, SP, AquaLung etc., but the only place I have found that has decent prices on them is LeisurePro. My LDS shops want 3x as much, if not more and they don't care to even knock 10% off much less match LP's prices. My concern is about the warranty that LP has. Has anyone had to use it? What exactly do they cover. I'd prefer not to spend over $400 for a reg/octo combo. Any suggestions.........?

Well, you get what you pay for. THis has been covered a thousand times here, all three of those companies provide a LIFETIME warranty to the original owner if you buy thru an authorized dealer. Leisure-Pro is not an authorized service center for anything they sell. They do not have authorized service technicians for anything they sell. I would not send them a Sherwood to overhaul. That being said, its your money. BTW, I have heard some horror stories abotu LP's service plan. Search, and you will find all you seek...

You should take a look at the AquaLung website they have a state about warrenty info. This was take from AquaLung's warrenty page.

Beware of any retailer that offers to sell and ship our life supporting products by mail, for orders placed by phone or the Internet. These retailers are NOT authorized Aqua Lung Dealers. All authorized Aqua Lung Dealers must execute a Dealer Agreement that does not allow the sale of Aqua Lung products except "in-store." Many Aqua Lung dealers advertise on the Internet, but they are not allowed to deliver our products other than "over-the counter." This is our assurance that you will receive the proper pre-sale, point-of-sale, and post-sale assistance, and that only trained and certified divers will use our products. If you obtain our product from one of these retailers, your warranty is therefore not valid and we cannot offer you the assurances of quality and satisfaction afforded by the Aqua Lung Warranty Program. If you would like to verify whether or not a retailer is an authorized Aqua Lung Dealer, please call: (760) 597-5000.

I saved almost 50% on my AL regs from LP over what my LDS would sell them for about three years ago. I tried to get them to lower the price but they would not. I have over 150 dives on two regs that have operated flawlessly. For what I paid, if one goes bad and CAN'T be repaired.....not likely, then I will toss it and buy another one. Oh, by the way, that LDS.........the're out of business now. Along with another LDS in town. We are down to two. If the LDS won't deal, but it at LP if you have the notion to save some dough.

I've read all of the warranty's on SP, AquaLung's, etc. websites, prompting the question about LP's warranty. I also did a search on here, but found nothing specificially about LP's warranty. Just saw where people had return problems or wrong products shiped etc. I guess I may have to go with a Zeagle or Mares for now to fit my budget. I am just concerned because I am going for my advanced this summer and we're going to do our deep dive in Lake Erie which gets pretty cold. Hopefully the Zeagle Envoy or maybe the Mares Abyss will work for me.

Thanks again

The savings you obtain from LP are so great, that the risk that the manufacturer might not fix it under its warranty is well worth it. If it comes to a recall, LP will have to replace it or the manufacturer is also likely to replace it. If a product truly has a defect requiring a recall, the manufacturer is not going to take the risk of not changing it out. The downside legal costs are way too high compared to what it costs the manufacturer to give you either a new 2nd, 1st or hose. Now, if you want to go with a manufacturers warranty and get very good prices (close to LP), you might look at Scuba Toys (www.scubatoys.com). Their website store does not include scubapro or atomic, but the LDS portion of the store does carry both brands with full warranties. Since they are also technically a LDS, they should be able to give you some good prices if you call them on the phone, just like you would call your LDS for prices. Ask for Larry. He's a real nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Lubold conveniently left something out between "you get a lifetime warranty when you buy from an authorized source" and "Leisurepro is not an authorized source."

What he left out is that Leisurepro matches the manufacturer's warranty themselves.

make sure you understand this also:

Leisurepro is not an authorized service center. This means that the parts do not come from the mfg no are the techs trained by the mfg.

If a product truly has a defect requiring a recall, the manufacturer is not going to take the risk of not changing it out. The downside legal costs are way too high compared to what it costs the manufacturer to give you either a new 2nd, 1st or hose

becareful here. you are assuming way to much. What going to happen is that they are going to tell you that beacuse you bought from an unauthorized source you will have to pay for any recall. If you dive with your item after this and something happens you will get chewed up by their lawyers. This is why many companies have lawyers that they pay no matter what. The also have insurance to cover most if not all of the costs.
Also when a recall is done it sometimes done by serial numbers......yours being grey market might not show up in the system.

now you also need to look at what will it cost to get fixed each year. Scubapro cost about $54 in parts per year on the higher models. http://www.scubapro.com/registration/savings_matrix.pdf

is paying less now cheaper over lets say like 4-5 years. If so then you might feel its worth buying from LP.
you might want to call LDS from cities around you, you might find one willing to match the price or come very close to it. If the LDS around you won't work with you go else where.

also look at http://www.scubatoys.com/store/regs/regs.asp. they have some good prices on many brands that can be shipped.

Here my 2 cents on this.

I bought my ATX200 online for $389 vs the $650+ it would have cost at my LDS. IT was an EBAY acution that turned out to be LP. I saved around $300 for buying it that way. I could almost have bought two online for the price of one at my LDS. Now as to parts and warranty svc. The warranty only covers the parts. On the warr you have to have it inspected the first year then overhauled the second. So if parts are appx $50 for an overhaul every two years. It will take me 12 years (or six overhauls) to spend the money on parts that would have been covered by the Mfg Warr. I think the parts warranty issn't that big of a deal. I did have a minor problem after about 30 dives when the secon stage started to have a minor problem. I took it to my LDS, I was up front and told them I bought it online from ebay. They charged me the same price for an inspection as my USD SEA4 that does have warrenty. The reg (Second stage) just needed cleaning/adjustment and has has work fine since. If needed I could have sent it to LP for warranty.

Once I complete my PADI DM and start getting Keyman discounts I'll start looking at buying regulators again with the LDS but until then If I need another regulator I'll by from LP.

Unfortunately I'm in PA so a trip to ScubaToys or many of the other places that sell AquaLung, SP etc. are not within reach. The cost to get there would unfortunately offset the savings....with that said, I have spoken to the guys at ScubaToys a couple times about the Reg I have and trying to find out who manufactured it (i.e. see my SeaSport post). I figured for now I need to find a Reg to get me through a couple refresher dives with my instructor at the beginning of May, my cruise (2-3 dives there) at the end of May and my Advanced dive this summer. The Advanced class goes to Lake Erie for the deep dive which hits a pretty chilly thermocline. I figured I would buy from either scubatoys or scuba.com and was looking at 3 Regs, the Zeagle Envoy, the Mares V16 Proton and the Mares M22 Abyss. I have done some pretty extensive research on these prior to finding the LeisurePro web site and then that spawned a lot more questions and research. I appreciate everyone's comments about LeisurePro and will probably stay away from them for this purchase for right now. If you have "further" comments on the 3 Regs I have mentioned (i.e. would like to know if its going to freeze on a dime) I would love to hear. Otherwise I have researched this website and gotten a lot of good ideas.......and for those I thank you as well.
