One of my dive buddies is in the market for a new reg. I swear by Scubapro and suggested look at their regs. My friend is considering buying through Leisure Pro which I'm advising against. I'm for shopping on web for things have purchased before and know want to get again. I'm for keeping my LDSs in business so can get my air as I don't have an internet air adaptor yet. For regs, BCs, I buy from LDS

One of the things I like about Scuba pro is their lifetime warranty. I can see why one would be tempted by their prices over SP dealers.

Is LP and official Scubapro authorized dealer? (Does not show up as one on Scubapro website directory for NY, NY)

One of the requirements for lifetime warranty is getting reg serviced annually by SP dealer. If I buy through LP? Will I be entitled to the same? (On LP website, it says "Limited Warranty") Do they send the original owner identification cards??

Before I buy, I want to make sure one entitled to same benefits of buying through local Authorized SP dealer.

Something just doesn't seem right.. How can they offer prices so low?

I had a problem with one of my first Scubapro regs with icing up (MK 25 1st stage)
Because under warranty and current, my LDS sent to SP and they sent me the latest 1stage for free and have had no problems since. This is not the kind of service would ever expect from Leisure pro.

LP doesn't give you the exact same warranty, but they will give you an equivalent warranty. For any problems or free parts you will have to go through LP instead of picking any authorized SP dealer.

Basically, you can decide if the price difference is worth the convenience.

LP is not an authorized SP dealer.

Lots of divers have purchased SP regs from LP and been very happy with the deal.

Your choice.

For my kind of diving(warm water---nothing below 60 degrees), I'd go with LP--or get something used even----there are deals out there to be had.......but----that's me.....

Reefseal - This question has been asked many, many times. Your profile states you joined SB in 2003. I do not know how you missed the prior threads regarding LP. I'm not trying to be rude, just stating the obvious. To answer the initial question, LP is not a Authorized SP dealer. They feel they offer a warranty similar to SP. I can not confirm there statement. The few times I have dealt with them have been fine, no issues with returns. I have not bought a regulator from them. If you search prior threads, you will find folks who swear by LP, others that hate LP. I try to buy my gear and have my gear serviced from local shops.

SP is price fixed. Dealers can not sell lower than a set price or SP will drop them as a dealer. Some would argue the price savings buying from LP or other 'grey market' sources, is better than paying for the warranty. SP has a "free parts" program, provided you service your gear annually. Take the time to checkout the other threads on LP, grey market shops. There is more than I have covered.

Happy shopping. Hope this helps - Tom

Yes, I didn't check for previous threads. I'm sure there are many posts on buying through LDS vs. LP, service, etc,. and search through them. I guess I was specifically inquiring about the the specifics of Scubapro warranty differences btw LP and LDS. Just want the data to help my dive buddy make own informed decision. Regs are something I consider using for life as long as serviced annually and well cared for. Want to make sure bud is aware of negatives before purchase.

I do have an email to Scubapro just to get their read which I will share on thread if they respond.

I was in Fla a year ago and saw a great deal on a Galileo UWTEC wrist computer. I had just bought my SmartTec so wasn't interested but the price was sooo cheap, $400 below the retail LDS price. It really was a good deal and considered but couldn't figure out how to explain to wife why I needed it after just bought one a year ago.. Just makes me wonder if would have problems replacing free battery..

If you get an answer, it will probably be the same boilerplate language that so many have seen before. It will look something like this:

ScubaPro/Uwatec Gray Market Letter

Seriously, use the search. You're not breaking any new ground here.

stay away from leisure pro, they are not an authorized dealer. Their gear can be missing important parts and do not have properly trained scubapro technicians. remember you have one life to live don't give it up for a good deal, be safe

Have you personally seen gear from LP with important missing parts?

If not, can you put us in touch with someone who has?

The whole 'pay more because your life depends on it' thing has been played out. Do you shop for plane tickets, or brake repairs, or even medicines based on the same philosophy?

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to consider buying from an authorized dealer, but IMO, the reasons you cite are not among them.

Exactly what parts will he find missing?

14 years olds should listen not preach!

Lesiure Pro is not an authorized dealer for Scubapro. No manufacturers warranty comes with Scubapro products purchased from their store or website.

Leisure Pro does offer a limited warranty on most Scubapro products but you have to mail the items to them for repairs. I can't comment on how good their warranty service is in comparison to Scubapro.

I personally support my LDS but I do buy things from LP. It's not one of those "life saving gear" issues for me, it's just a matter of supporting my local small businesses.

Ask yourself this, LP sells a reg for $500, same setup at the LDS is $700. If you service it annualy, how long before you spend $200 in shipping? You may have moved on to other equipment or you may only service every other year.

Next, ask yourself this, if you could get a dive computer for $1200 with no warranty where the same computer was $1900 at the LDS, would $700 be worth it knowing there was no warranty?

The arguments are on both side, how you feel about your money is how you shop. Neither the LDS or LP are WRONG, it's just a matter of personal preference. Go in to it knowing about the warranty and make your decision.

Check this thread out, http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/co...yzers/293236-galileo-sol-warranty-beware.html, Someone thought they were getting a dive computer with a Scubapro warranty and found out.... it is under warranty but not by Scubapro USA. He had to send it in to Europe. It's possible that his or his wife decision to buy it from the online store maybe have been changed had they known the facts up front.

Nothing wrong with buying online.. everyone wants value for their money. Some people value warranty over cost, it puts their mind at ease.
