Hello Ya'll!
I posted about this awhile back and can not find the post now. I am coming to Torrance Beach for a class from Nov. 6 to Nov 12. I am landing at LAX at 11:16am on Sunday the 6th and leaving Saturday morning the 12th. I would love to find some folks to go dive with on Sunday afternoon and at least one night that week. Beach diving sounds like a good idea to me. I am not going to be there long enough on Sunday for a boat I believe. Someone sent me the info for the Sports Chalet where I can get gear for a good price including a thick wetsuit. I would really, really like to get wet while I am there. The night dive with the group that does the Wednesday night dive would be really cool. I am just hesitant to walk up to a group of folks I do not know and volunteer myself to go with them. A little about me so you can gauge experience level and what would be applicable for me. I have 10 dives so far. Of those, one was in Cancun in 30' of water with awesome visibility. The next 6 dives were my certification dives in freshwater here. Visibility was at best 15' and most of the times less than 8'. We did a lot of burrowing through thick grass (to get the experience my instructor said) and low vis diving. My last three were in a freshwater lake with similar visibility. One of the dives we did was below 60' in zero vis blackness. I did this dive with a good friend of mine I trust who let me hang on to him the whole time. I did it so I could experience zero vis and it would not be there first time if I accidently got into it. I have been swimming for fun and racing since I can remember. Don't race anymore after high school, but I swim alot. I am very comfortable in the water, but I do not want to over load myself in a new environment. Is there anyone one here who would be willing to bring a southerner to experience So Cal diving? Thanks for any and all help!!!!

The DiveVets people are very friendly, they don't mind you walking up and join them.

I don't do beach diving (too much work) or else I'd accompany you.

I am not set on beach diving only, I just don't know of any boats avaliable with me not getting into LA until 11am on Sunday the 6th. I am open to them if you know of any.

Do you have a car? I'm usually up for a beach dive or two in Malibu, or a night dive at Vets. Weekdays are usually best for me. Let me know.

I will have a rental car the whole time I will be in LA.

What day and time do you have for diving then? Let me know and I'll see if there's a boat schedule that can be matched to your schedule.

I am landing at LAX at 11:15am on Sunday the 6th of November. I need to be able to get from the airport to the rental place to get my gear and then to an airport. I am guessing 2pm would be the earliest I could get somewhere. I have money saved for this trip and I am not opposed to a boat. I am also considering hiring a guide from one of the local shops, but I would really like to meet a SB member and dive. I am planning on contacting the Dive Vets folks to ask about the Wednesday dive. I really appreciate all the help folks!

One of these days we are gonna have to go for a dive. Weekdays are also best for me and so is Malibu. :)

Would you like to meet up and do the night dive on Wednesday night with the VETS guys with me?

I called Catalina Divers Supply and I believe I am going to do a guided dive with them at Casino Point on Sunday the 6th. For $119 they provide all the equipment and a guide. I think my comfort factor will be higher with a guide diving in CA waters for the first time. I will be taking the 2pm Catalina Express to the island and catching the 7:45pm boat back. I would still love to get together with someone and do the Wednesday night dive at Vets. PM me or post here if you are up for it.
