My first time at OML today, Sunday, and I lost a fin on entry at the point. It might have gotten into some rocks and stuck down there. It was a black split fin.

The rest of the dive was good, and a buddy shared a fin with me when he saw that I wasn't getting much speed with a single fin.

Please leave a message here if you find it.

Thanks to whoever finds it.

My buddy SpKelpDiver has had alot of stuff lost over the years at Marineland. Lost a weightbelt with about 70 bucks worth of weight on it, Aqualung snorkel, and most recently a ScubaPro frameless mask. It seems she likes to take stuff from him as payment for a good dive. Take this loss as your pittance to the marineland gods.

I will keep an eye out for your fin though:)

Isn't that embarrassing?

I lost a fin entering at the Point a couple of years ago. I made the dive with one fin, then found a single fin on Ebay the next day. A week later a fisherman found my lost fin and I ended up with a spare. It's the last time I entered at the Point. I now always enter at the cove and make the surface swim to the point. That, plus hauling two sets of gear up the trail in my killer wagon is the only excercise I get. :)

Yes, it is embarassing, almost hate to admit it, but I am humbled and appreciative at the same time that I got to dive OML. A lost fin is ultimately a small sacrifice as long as I was able to enjoy and finish the dive.

Entering at the cove with a long surface swim to the point sounds like a good strategy. I guess most of the dive would be heading back east before surfacing, with s shorter but a relatively long surface swim.

At least the consolation is that we were able to park closer to the entries and suited up there, so you didn't have to cart anything anywhere. I understand that yesterday was the first day that the management allowed that with a sign in sheet at the entrance to the property.

It actually began last week, but the security guards weren't informed...again. After a call to the site manager the Sunday group was allowed in, but conditions sucked.
I usually drop near the pinnacles in 50-65 feet and spend a few minutes there. I then slowly make my way back along the edge of the reef, trying not to kick much. I stop along the way to look at all the tiny animals and algae. That way my air lasts until I get all the way back in to three feet of water in front of my entry/exit spot. I end most dives there with 300-800 psi. My fiancee Merry always has around 1100 psi left. :(
