i lost my dive log that had about 15 dives in it. including all my cert. dives and my nav., drift, boat, and all those dives in it. i got a new log book from my brother who never used it. what should i do about the dives i lost. some of the people are in the bahamas and mexico who signed off on it

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Try to fill in the most information you remember. Most boats don't make you show a log. If you lost your c-cards thats alittle different but what I do I keep an electronic record and a written record.

Jot them in to the best of your memory if you want them in there, or just start up this book with dive 16 and don't worry about it. I don't have my log book from my first dives... 30 + years ago! You have the cards to show you did the classes, the log is really pretty much for you. I have not had anyone look at my log book, or even ask if I had one (which I don't as I just download them on my computer) in 15 years.

So don't worry!

Or you could just go diving. After a few hundred dives 15 will seem like a heavy week.

I went diving yesterday and thought I had lost one of my log books with with the last 100 or so dives I did in it. I thought I was going to get sick. It wasn't so much losing all of the dives logged as there were losing descriptions of some dives I did with a couple of people that were very special to me, some I may never see again. Luckily I found it in a bag I keep sunscreen in:)

I would just start at dive 16 and note in the comment section that you lost the old book - not to show others, but to remind yourself years from now what happened to 1-15. Maybe even write where you went, dive sites if you remember, etc. I find it nice to review mine once in a while when I see an article on a Must Dive location, etc.

No one will ask for your dive log as long as you have your cert card. I still carry my log book of my first 65 dives in my newer book.. guess I could file it away now.. lol.

No worries though on your log book. I would also prob write down how much weight you used last if you remember.. I find when I take breaks for a few months, I need to remind myself what my last few dives were weight-wise..

Yes, the only time you may need your log book is for a class that requires X amount of dives for the next cert. I agree, make 1-15 and jot what you remember...and then just start 16 fresh noting the lost dive book and info from 1-15.

I keep a seperate log on a jump stick. Also, my dive computor remembers something like the last 20 or 30 dives. So I'm covered. No worries about losing the original that way.

The log book is for you, so other than the emotional attachment, it's no big deal. Your c-cards are your proof of certification, not your log. I've never had anyone ask to see my log book. I have had boat captains ask about my number of logged dives and my deepest dive when doing more advanced wreck dives (but still within rec limits), but they never required a log book as proof. Also, I stopped getting signatures at about dive 20 and I rarely if ever have anyone ask me to sign theirs. If they ask I'll sign it, but it's very, very rare.
