Loss an Antennae

I am Sorry guys... i just wasn't prepared for it..... i didn't think i would have saw a lobster the reef is real new

Never grab a lobster's antennae. While it will grow a new one, it will always break off. You can't catch lobster that way. If you can't get a good solid hold on its body, there's no point grabbing at all.

Sometimes you just can't grab the body. If you can get a good hold of the knuckles down at the base of the antennas, you've got a good shot at wrestling it out.

hey guys, I study marine biology at the Univeristy of South Alabama, and this reminded me of something called autonomy. I studied it in crabs, but maybe lobsters do it too. In crabs, if they are threatened by a predator, they can actively lose a limb to get away. Any of you guys know if lobster do that? I'll have to see if I can find out....

Autotomy= "self sever"

Autonomy= "self law"

Sometimes you just can't grab the body. If you can get a good hold of the knuckles down at the base of the antennas, you've got a good shot at wrestling it out.

That's an advanced technique. It's difficult for a beginner to be able to tell the difference between grabbing the antennae and the knuckles.

As for learning to lobster.... you might have to wait until July, regular season is closed after tomorrow.
