Hey Everyone...

I will be in Los Roques between Oct 15 and Oct 23, 2011 and I plan to dive my ass off... :-)

Any tips or suggestions regarding dive shops, dive sites, accommodation, etc. are greatly appreciated. Dive buddies are also welcomed...

See ya underwater !!!

Jorge

Hola Todos,

Jorge

Jorge:

I would suggest getting a triple package (air tickets, posada and diving arrangements) with Arrecife Divers. They are the oldest and probably the best equipped Diving Operator in Los Roques. Visit them at Escuela de buceo Arrecife Divers. Negotiate with them that you WANT to do at least six dives at the "blue barrier" (southern part of the archipelago, where the best diving sites are).

Please post a report upon your return. It's been many years since I have been there, and this question comes up often enough!

I suggest not buying any property there, and getting there soon (October 15th sounds perfect!), before it is turned to "productive activities":

From a recent Wall Street Journal article:

CARACAS—Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez said he aims to nationalize property on the island chain of Los Roques to open the tourism hub to locals and use the archipelago for "productive activities" like fishing.

Located in the Caribbean Sea, nearly 80 miles north of the Venezuelan mainland, Los Roques is known for its white, unspoiled beaches and has become a major attraction for high-end, expensive tourism.

"There are houses there that were built illegally and those we are going to expropriate," the socialist leader said in a phone call to a state television program late Wednesday. "There are some supposed landowners there that privatized everything, like the bourgeoisie, including international ones. I have always said that we should nationalize Los Roques," he said.
