alright, thanks for the suggestions guys. any idea about how much they would be worth? like i said, the MC can still use them since he can still fill them. but i didnt know how much they would be worth or a good point to start negotiating price down. i think he is doing the cert for around $200 or so.

Get rid of the aluminum tanks. Trade them in for a decent steel tank and you'll be the more better off in the future.

Why? Without knowing the diver and the conditions he dives in you can't make this statement. For cold Cal diving, steels may be a good choice however for warm water they may not. I personally can not dive steel in warm fresh water, they are way to negative for me even when diving with no weights. I dive AL-80s with no weights and am still a pound or 2 heavy in fresh water. Steels have their place but they are not always the best choice. Plus the cost of steel is twice that of AL, I can buy 2 tanks and the little extra lead I need for what 1 steel would cost me.

I figure the value of out of hydro pre 1990 AL-80 at around $20, esp if you are in Fla, the dive shops up here actually understand AL tanks. Post 1990 maybe $40. Add $15-20 if they have a recent hydro.

^ill be doing pretty much solely warm water dives.

so getting the MC to take off about $35 per tank (they are getting hydro'd as we speak) from the cert. price would be reasonable?
