Any idea approx when the new oceanic is coming out? I'd hate to buy a new smaller reg, and then she sees this new oceanic come out and wants that.

You can try asking Chris (cerich on SB).

My girlfriend had an oceanic regulator that blew up on our last trip. We are looking to get it serviced, but its not looking like that will turn out. This regulator was super small and quite possibly the smallest reg I've ever seen. Does anyone know of other smaller sized regulators that we could purchase as a replacement?

As others have said...the Mares Proton Metal is an excellent, wasy breathing, lightweight, small regulator. I have used mine under the ice or down south and have never had a problem. My girlfriend uses the same setup. Cheers!

This is always one of my least favorite questions - other than a new name, there is still a bit of work to do to before this is ready for production. We had every intention of having this on the market already, so posting a specific date is always a challenge until we get a bit further along. To give you an idea and help with your decision, I would not expect to see this regulator in stores until July/August.

Hope this helps. Enjoy whatever it is that you decide to go with.

Could you define "Blew up"? I'm surprised that anything could have happened to it that would require you to get a brand new reg, as opposed to having it repaired, and if it did, why would you consider getting ANOTHER one?

What exactly is "Blew Up"?

If there was some sort of catestrophic failure, you should talk to the folks at Oceanic. Maybe they would do something for you (warranty/trade-in?).

Well that's a good question. We were on our last dive when all of a sudden her reg made a loud noise and started free flowing. I'm not a service tech and i don't know the lingo, but I think they said that the diaphragm ripped or blew out or something. Needless to say, she purchsed this reg from an LDS on GITMO like 6-7 years ago and doesn't have a receipt so we dont think Oceanic will be the way to go. Also, since she was about to jump in the water and it scared her so much, she's a little apprehensive about going 80-100ft with it. Thus, the search for a new reg.

That's too bad. Once you have it serviced it will be as good (or better) than new.

FWIW, I'd go with an Atomic Aquatics Z1. It's not huge, but not tiny either, breathes like a dream, and is very realiable.

I'd stick with reliable, stable, well-known designs, since another failure could scare her off diving permanently.

You should avoid anything that was recently released, or has an "est" in it's description (smallest, lightest, newest, etc.) Even though it might be the best thing since sliced bread, you don't want to use your GF as a tester and find out that it isn't.

as mentioned in a couple of of the earlier posts, i'd recommend the Mares Proton metal or Proton ice too.. works like a charm.. may not have the "DIR pedigree" of Scubapro & Apeks, but they get the job done well..
