While I don't like most of what Harbor Freight sells, at $1.69 it's essentially disposable. Just get a new one before a dive trip.

5 in. Jumbo Aluminum Hook

For an airport suitcase, we use the lightest Samsonite hardside case for fins, BCD, boots,..... Next smaller size down for our "regular" travel needs and hardside carry-on's for masks, regs and computers. They all nest together so the room isn't an explosion of suitcases. At the destination, Stahlsac bags for the boats.

From my experience, of diving all over the world

Consider the the circumstances at your destination. Large wheeled bags might be great at home and at the airport, if you're being taken to the hotel via a coach then they'll be okay

If however you need to use a local taxi (generally small) or use them on uneven or rough surfaces - they're not so great. (a couple of smaller bags are easier to fit in taxis etc. With careful packing you'll be surprised at how small a bag you really need, although make allowances for rushed packign on your way home.

I normally have dive gear in 1 bag (to go to the dive centre) and clothes etc in another

If you're on a liveaboard ideally your bag should easily be ably to be carried on a small tender and when empty take up as little room as possible (it might end up in your room)

I don't buy into the myth of branded dive bags being more open to theft, my gear been via Thailand in a mesh bag. Dive gear is bulky and too specialised for opportunist thieves. Better to have bags which are robust and meet your needs

Personally I'm not a fan of external pockets and I'm convinced most dive bags aren't actually designed by divers

Hi @Kimela . I've read this thread and the one you linked to and wondering how you like the above bag. It seems like Sierra.com is no longer selling them; is this link the same bag as the one you purchased?

That looks like the same bag - I never knew it originally came in so many colors! (Is pink the only color it's available in? Easy to spot on the luggage carousel!) I still love mine, and it's been on a 13 trips since I bought it. I still love the fact that even when I pack it as full as I can, it still haven't gone over 50 pounds. There is enough 'hardware' to protect the back and sides, and I pack it so that anything on the softer 'front' is padding for anything within. I've brought back bottles of wine, packed very well, with no breakage. If someone would give me a set of the aluminum luggage I'd sure take it, but while I'm paying for my luggage I still love this bag.

Well, the first picture that comes up is of a pink bag, but the only one available in the order drop-down is black. I'm guessing this is the case because Eagle Creek no longer makes them, and because this particular seller specializes in closeout stock, per its website.​

But the price is certainly right, compared to other bags of similar quality. I may take a chance. Thanks again.​

One on the best luggage reviews I ever read, pointed out that colored luggage, inevitably gets black marks/scuffs going through all the conveyors/carrousels.

Furthermore, those black scuff marks, won't come all of the way off, even with lots of elbow grease, which you wouldn't want to do anyway.

Whatever cheap 4 wheel roller bag, preferably hard sided, is cheapest at TJ Max/Marshall/whatever for the flight . Then use a soft sided Bonaire mesh bag to get onto the boat. Many boats around here don’t welcome hard sided or wheeled bags, too much bulk/room. Plus it can fit everything pretty nicely. BP/W, regs, fins, wetsuit etc. it does get a little heavy and hang a little low, but but with the straps cinched up it’s fine for to/from boat/rental car/hotel room etc.

I also like the Eagle Creek No Matter What Rolling Duffels, they work great getting all the gear to the hotel. They are tough, spacious, nondescript, and the bitech fabric is waterproof for any water-based transits.

Once at the hotel, I use a Cressi Dry Gara Backpack 60l to shuttle gear to and from the boat/rental car. Works a miracle keeping the car dry of funky sea water and packs up tiny on the boat.
