Any opinions on this:

Effective Jan 1, 2008 OMS will no longer be offering Faber Painted steel cylinders due to the following reasons:

Faber is unable to supply cylinders with current Hydo dates in a timely manner
Faber is difficult to deal with on warranty Claims
There have been an excessive amount of warranty claims with Faber cylinders for corrosion due to the fact that the spray Zinc coating is porous
The exchange rate is not favorable and has resulted in an overpriced product
High Maintenance: Because the underlying Zinc spray coating is porous Faber cylinders must be painted. If the painting is breached then the water can pass through the paint then the zinc and cause corrosion. Therefore Faber cylinders require too much maintenance.

All Warranty issues for painted cylinders should be directed to Faber
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OMS will however be offering Hot Dipped galvanized cylinders due to their low maintenance and superior corrosion resistance in 2008.

I refuse to buy anything from OMS -- they're a bunch of losers.

There is only one there that matters.

"The exchange rate is not favorable and has resulted in an overpriced product"

The bottom line is that it was affecting their bottom line.

The paint job and under coat on a gray OMS tank was crap compared to the plain white Faber tanks. Water wicked under the gray paint and destroyed OMS tanks. That does not happen on the white Faber tanks.

I know the paint formula has been changed/toughened for Faber tanks over the years, but for salt water divers, I would still seriously consider removing the tank boots from them to prevent any salt water to pooling. Almost all heavy corrosion I've seen on steel tanks has been concentrated in the sections under the boots.

My standards are actually a bit higher than yours - I specifically buy only from winners.

What a bunch of BS.

If that is true, I don't know what are people doing to scuba tanks over in the US, in Europe they perform and last just fine. :D

I bought a set of Worthingtons, I had a Faber 130 and after using it three times noticed the paint had come off at the cam buckle area. I use an OMS setup back plate and wing on a single tank adapter. I had plans to go doubles but needed a few weeks to save up again. There are many things that could be done to remedy this but the main concern I was told by a reputable dealer ( not my lds ) that Faber requires the tank to be sent back and painted at the owners expense and the turn around could take weeks. I don't know of this for certain, and have read many threads both possitive and negative but I tend to trust the LDS when I am about to spend alot of money. My LDS sells majority of Faber tanks. To me some times it is just a roll of the dice some times you get a lemon some times you don't. It happens but to me the most important part of any purchase is the warranty aspect and how the customer service is handled. If it is handled poorly I tend to shy away from that product. Has anyone had bad luck with the paint issue with faber. Oms dropped the sale of Faber tanks yes, but it doesn't mean they are full of B.S or Faber sucks, it means OMS had some problems they felt could not be resolved where the customer would not be satisfied. Nothing against faber or OMS but if anyone can refer me to some actual documented info I seeno reason to slam either company.

Is OMS delivering galvinized steel cylinders and if so who is the manufacturer?
