For the computer LCD is fine with the lake viz according to my instructor. If I do a thread how long before somebody tells me to buy a shearwater?

I like your SPG suggestion and I will definitely take it into account! It confort me in the idea to go for a BP/W (modularity to adapt things to my handicap) and my instructor agrees with the BP/W idea even though she ride a BCD.

For single tank diving, the standard BP/W setup is already close to what you need. The left hand is only used for bc inflate/deflate and checking the SPG. You've already worked out how to deal with the former, so just need to figure the best setup for the latter.

My guess would be no later than the 3rd post. If you include the phrase "other than Shearwater" in your original post then maybe 5 posts.

Yes and I believe that the BP/W will provide me with the best flexibility to find that out and adapt ! for the computer I think I'll make some more researches on my own before creating a post. it will help me to orientate efficiently the conversation.

ok so I'm almost set on the BPW I will get.

my only hesitation now is the size of the with 14L(31lbs) or 17L (37lbs)

I'll be diving regularly in waters from 3C (37F) to 24C (75F) and hope to travel with it too. so from thick wet suit / dry suit to light wet suit.

I'm thinking to go for an AL bp/w with quick release weight system plus and trim weight pouches. Not ideal but capable everywhere.

But I'm struggling with the wing size


As a subsidiary question, at equal price would you always go for a thicker outer shell for resistance(cordura 2000 instead of cordura 1000) or is there something else to take into consideration? (weight difference is 290grams or 0.6 lbs)

14L is enough for a single tank wing with any type of exposure gear.

Cordura 1000 is the standard material for wing shells. For example, it's used by VGDH, Dive Rite, Hollis, OxyCheq, Halcyon and OMS for their single tank wings. Only a couple of specialty makers use Cordura 2000 on singles wings. I don't see a need unless you are planning to regularly squeeze through tight openings in wrecks

this maker (daretodive) is producing for several different brands (some fairly well known) and is offering 2000 at the same price (8 euros) so I was asking just in case! But your answer makes me happy cuz the 1000 can come un multiple colors, which suits me.

I dive 15L steels, I've used a 14L wing, but prefer a 17l

With your requirements driven by no left hand, reach out directly to Apex and or Xdeep they might easily be able to cut a BCD for you at the factory for no extra cost. I have both Apex and Xdeep gear and recommend them both

30 pounds of lift is theoretically possible with a big steel tank and thick wetsuit or drysuit, but you may want a bit of margin.

The larger question is whether it makes sense to try to build a compromise rig for two very different types of diving. For example, an Al backplate makes no sense for coldwater diving.

Yes in an ideal world. However. The weight difference between the 2 is roughly 4lbs or 2kg. Nothing. That weight difference can easily be distributed though cam band pockets or what ever else the OP is using

All rigs are a compromise ( to some extent) unless its built for one particular type of diving in a particular environment
