I am looking to learn to dive. After some research on the web, I feel NAUI may be the way to go. Are there any classes or instructors in Jersey? I only found a few locations and none to local. Specifically, I'm looking for a class in the Middlesex County area. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check the NAUI website for locations near you. You might want to read an article I have in my website below for certification courses in the articles section.

I am NAUI OW certified. I assure you, there is nothing special about a NAUI certification. If you do a SB search on agencies, you'll see that the individual instructor matters far more than the agency.

I've taken classes from NAUI, PADI, and PDIC instructors. The worst was my NAUI OW instructor. Does this mean that NAUI is inferior as an agency? Not at all. My nitrox instructor was NAUI and the class was excellent.

May I suggest talking to Jason Fisch at the SCUBA Connection in Hillsborough (http://tscscuba.com). They are PADI, but don't hold that against them

I have a good friend who is a NAUI Course Director in Oradell. If that's close enough to you PM me for his name.

Thanks Neil, but I'm way south of there. I'm trying to find something close to home to fit my work schedule.

This is a great shop and you wont be disappointed. They actually have a heated pool in the shop which works out well for winter training. They are located on route 206 about 20 minutes north of princeton.

Where do you live? There are many decent shops throughout NJ. The question to ask yourself is what type of diving do you intend to do? I've found some shops cater more to resort divers while others more to local divers. If you plan on doing a lot of local diving, the latter is an important consideration.

I'm about 30-40 minutes north of Middlsex. Contact me if you wish.
