I have a marine chart for east coast but nothing for up around venice.
I thought if I could get a longitude coordinate I could use my portable
gps to get me in the 24 ft. depth range. A set of numbers for a location
in this depth range would work also. I know it slopes very slowly in this area
but just trying to get a general idea where 24 ft. starts.

I couldn't say how far from shore you'd have to be to reach 24 fsw @ South Brohard, but I've been more than 1/4 mile from shore there and the depth was only 20 ft. I'm guessing probably close to a mile from the beach might come close to 24 ft.

Yeah, you're right about that. I found a marine chart online and it looks to be
around 1.25 or 1.50 miles to get in that vicinity. Up near the main beach it looks like
it gets deeper a bit faster than down near s. brohard. I tried to get an estimate
on what the gps numbers were.

Do the teeth start at 24' or something?

No, the teeth (fossil beds) do not start @ 24fsw. I have found teeth right along the waters edge out to about 30 fsw. Finding the right spot is more important than water depth. I regularly take a GPS with me when diving and mark productive spots for future return along with marking other important feature such as patch reefs & ledges.

Glock Diver, I was looking for an area with a little more structure. I'm
really not a fossil hunter but try to keep a watch out for anything while
diving. I do these dives with a kayak and a buddy and after seeing the
distance to shore at about a half mile out I would never shore dive that far
from shore without a kayak and only with a good weather report for the day.
