Hi Guy's,

My wife and I are off to Lombok for a week in a few days. Not a diving hol, just some R&R.
We have only around 20ish dives and I need some work on my buoyancy I feel after my last few dives. So, the question is, is there anywhere worth the cost of a days dive. We're staying in Senggiggi for a few days and then down to the southern tip of the island -Kuta. Heard the Gilli's are just not worth it and that Belongas Bay is out of our experience league for now-and some time!

Anywhere else worth it? It's not crucial that we dive but don't want to miss out on somewhere nearby if possible.

Thanks in advance.

The Gillis are just fine for beginning divers. The diving there isn't amazing but there is pretty good diversity and the reefs can be nice in spots. Yes there is lot's of dynamite
fishing damage where the reef is blasted to bits but there are some areas that a pretty nice.

Hi df,

I should have said that we have dived in the Similans so are a bit spoiled even as newbies and not really interested in diving just for diving's sake. However, if there's some really great dives around there for the not so epx then great but I just don't hear that the Gilli's are worth it-and from the videos it looks that way too. I should also say that we are both 'certified' advanced divers - certified being the key word, if you catch my drift.

Cheers.

If you think the Similans spoiled you then you will be happy diving the Gili Islands. There are some muck sites around Senggigi that are absolutely worth it too.

Having dived the Similans and the Gilis about 6 times in total . I would say that the Gilis are better.Pre 2010 coral bleaching the Similans may have been better but now I would say that the Gilis are far better.....masses of turtles and the coral in many areas is better.
