Hi everyone. My name is Erika and I will be taking scuba lessons next month. I'm interested in finding another female individual who is not yet certified. I found many women who are certified and I would greatly appreciate any guidence.

Thank you
Erika

Hey Erika, there are a lot of So Cal women on this board. A lot of us don't fit into the 2 categories you list though. If you have questions or need someone to talk to let em' rip. We are here to help each other if we can. If you want to keep it private go ahead and PM me.

Hellooo Erika...:D

My one piece of advice: buy spring straps

Orangelion03, what are "spring straps" and what should they be used for?

Thank you DiveKim. I re-edited my first entry, it's a little more clearer.

Flirt? Me? Whatever gave you THAT idea? :blinking:

Springs straps are the California shore diver's bestest friend. They replace the regular adjustable fin straps. They are made from stainless steel springs...you never have to adjust them, they never ever break, and are easy to slip on and off the heel. Here's an example:

No worries, just want to make sure you know we are all here to answer any question and help in any way we can.

Robert is right about the spring straps, they will be invaluable for beach diving.

I was looking at your equipment setup, my only concern is a 5mm wetsuit may not be sufficient right now if you tend to get cold easily. You might want to get a hooded vest to go with it to keep your core warm. 2.5mm gloves may end up being a little chilly on the hands as well right now, though they certainly will be easier to get certified in as they are more pliable. If you find your hands do get cold you may want to buy some 5mil gloves after you get certified. There is nothing worse than feeling cold and miserable while diving, takes all the fun out of it.

Of course, if you don't tend to get cold easily you may be fine, there are divers here in So Cal that do 5mil all year round, though I think they just won't admit to being cold.

Let us know what we can do to help or what we can answer for ya'.

I went back to check to see if I mistyped it, but I didn't. It's a 5mm bootees. I have to rent the size 16 wetsuit from Beach Cities Scuba. I would have to buy from custom made from Henderson or Body Glove. It'll be like $300 or so. I'm going to wait after the certification. :)

Hi Erika, I'm glad to hear that actually, I had awful visions of you freezing your behind off and deciding you didn't like diving. Good idea to wait for the next big purchase until after cert.

So when is your first class?
