So Cal Guppy:
I'm starting my class at Beach Cities Scuba (Huntington Beach-classroom), then at Scuba Toys (also Beach Cities Scuba) for pool, and then OW.

First day of class is Wednesday April 11 at 7:30pm.
Saturday April 14 & Sunday April 15 is pool/pool- all day.
Saturday April 21 & Sunday April 22 is OW/OW- all day.

I have been with Jeff long enough to know that...
"If you bring it, you carry it!"

*the saying is supposed to be the truth and humorous.

Erika,

Welcome to diving! I hope you'll love it as much as we do!

Holler if you have any questions. I am an OC gal too. And whatever Kim (surfhopper) says, goes! She's a great diver.

Thank you Deb. So Cal Shaggy and I did some practising in my parents' swimming pool. (the theramostat is shot and no heated pool) (luckily there wasn't a floating human iceberg out there. eheheheheh. Anyway, I need to practise the pinching nose? when the water fills up in the mask -- water just rushes into my nose. ugh!

It sounds like you need a different mask! While even the best mask will flood periodically, this one may be wrong for your face. When you try one on, make sure it has a good seal WITH A MOUTHPIECE IN YOUR MOUTH. They all seem to fit me until I put the reg in my mouth and then there are big differences.

Also, practice blowing out OUT through your nose while wearing the mask. It'll help keep the water from getting in your nose and prevent mask squeezes when you're at depth.

Mask issues are probably the biggest obstacles to overcome when you're a new diver. Don't worry. It all gets easier with practice!

Anyone else have suggestions?

-Deb, I got it incorrect. when Jeff (So Cal Shaggy) lifted my mask that's when the water was coming in and it just blurred my vision and I started breathing in cold pool water. Now three days later, my nose is all stuffed-up and runny. UGH!!! Is it true that if you have a cold/congestion you shouldn't go diving? The mask is pratically brand new (number of uses: 5-10x over a 5+ yr period, about.) It's an U.S Diver mask.

I really wish I could use a nose pincher or whatever they call them. Jeff said I should practise pinching my nose while watching tv. :rofl3: I know he means well. :10: .

Thanks

VERY TRUE. You could suffer serious pain and/or injury if you dive with sinus congestion.

Don't worry! You'll get over it soon enough. And if you don't, you won't be the first student to postpone due to a cold.
