Sadly since it was a local resident and not a tourist that was injured, there will minimal news coverage and pressure to reign in the pirate fleet operating in the park. Might be a few checks but I suspect it will be business as usual within a week or two

We dove with Manolo for many years when he’d worked for a friends dive shop a while back. He was a great dive guide and we always enjoyed diving with him. Our friends sold their business and we all moved on on to other jobs and dive ops. When we saw him at the marina we would always get a friendly hug and catch up. He is a really nice guy that loves diving. His injuries are horrific. The blood bank at CostaMed is looking for blood donations, any blood type to help Manolo and others. If you are on the island consider helping. My husband went to the hospital to donate blood for Manolo. He is O neg, a universal donor but over 65 which sadly prevents him from donating blood in Mexico The Go Fund Me is also a great way of helping him out. The link is in one of the posts above.

The owner Fernan Salazar of the boat Maranata 4 that struck Manuel has not said a word about it, shows no concern his boat was involved.
The same thing happened when Kirsty MacColl was run over and killed by a boat out front of Chankanaab in December of 2000. I don't know if anyone was ever held accountable.

They were in that a boat hand was bribed to take responsibility so that monetary damages would be based on his income instead of on the rich owners.

He paid 1000 pesos to avoid the nearly 3 year prison sentence and $2100 USD in restitution to Kirsty's family. "Justice" in Mexico 🙄.
