Blaming the victims? :D

If I am responsible for abusive taxi drivers, all I can do is apologize; I am not getting into an argument over a pittance when I am on vacation. FWIW, I pay for taxis in pesos, I don’t tip taxi drivers, and when I don’t know the driver but I know what the fare should be, which is most of the time, I just hand it over and get out.
I employed this exact strategy on our last trip. From El Cantil to basically everywhere we went, the fare is $100 pesos. Maybe it's actually $80, don't know. $100 is close enough. Every ride I would hand the driver a $100 peso bill and say gracias and never had any issue except for one driver who said it was $150, to which I politely replied, "no, es cien". He immediately accepted my $100 peso bill and we parted ways.

They were arguing over $5.
Ask the fare before getting in.

If I were in a dispute over $5, I would just pull out $100 pesos and rip it a little bit before handing it over and walking away.
I have mixed opinion to the overcharging of taxi fares. It really pi$$es me off how tourists get ripped off but arguing over $5 while on vacation probably isn't worth the grief. On the other hand, if we keep enabling the issue taxi drivers will continue to rip us off and it will never end. I feel it is similar to giving in to an alcoholic/junkie who has to have just one more drink/fix, we are enabling the problem. Most of us on this forum know the game and and just pay a reasonable price but we are a small percentage of tourists that visit MX. Hopefully the metered fare will level the playing field but prices will certainly rise for everyone.

If I am contributing to the problem, all I can do is apologize, although I pay in pesos, never tip cab drivers, and when I know the fare I just hand it over and get out. I will not get into an altercation with a cab driver over a couple of bucks.

For much of our cabbing around on Cozumel we use the same guy, who has the good sense to value repeat business over short term gain.

I have to admit to contributing to the problem as well. I know approximately the fare and pay it just like @OregonDM mentioned. Sometimes I tell the driver the rate sheet fare and let him know he missed out on a good tip.

Holy crap .... we are staying just south of Money Bar and didn't even know it rained very much. It was raining a bit when we went to bed last night but today was a pretty good, dry day with no sign of heavy rain last night
Yeah, it rained, but I doubt 6 inches.
