If this interests you, this book might be a good read. It's about a man who "steals" ships back for their owners after they are seized by corrupt businesses/governments Amon other things.

Any update on this? I am scheduled to dive Galapagos in mid June aboard a buddy boat and just saw this posting.

Time to enact "Plan B" my friend.

Do you have any info to confirm this so I can initiate plan B? I am going with a group of 16 mostly high school students and before I cause a panic I really need some confirmation that this is not just a rumor.

I have a reservation/deposit for Aug 2013. Have sent email to Ultimate Dive Travel requesting info. So far it seems all the normal outlets are still advertising space.

Looks like this might be my last international liveaboard before its my first. Time will tell. I had very low opinion of the international liveaboard industry prior to this reservation, so I am not going to be surprised if I get fleeced.

Have you been in regular communication with the operator? If so, what are they disseminating?

This is why I generally go with reputable chains like Aggressor, Mike Ball, etc. But you never know, and there is a certain level of anxiety in wiring money to Indonesia, say, to a company that doesn't take credit cards. One strategy is to reserve and pay at the last possible moment, under the theory that if they were operating last month they probably won't be going broke this month.

Good luck—I hope it works out okay.

Guess I thought the Dive Buddy folks were up and up. At worst its a deposit loss, expensive, but not the end of the world. Will be interesting how the agent handles this if the boats go belly up.

If you do a web search for a reward on these boats now, nothing relevant comes up - since the original post on this was nearly a month ago without further news - this issue may already be resolved.
