The "T" is an abbreviation put there to help the assembly line people put the correct lense in each side of the mask. the "T" on the left side is short for "The Left Lense" and the "T" on the right side is short for "The Right Lense."



Rumor has it that even with this wonderful idea, assemblers still often mix them up.
 
hahaaa....I second the "tempered glass" idea....my first mask actually had the words printed on both sides.
