Looking for a beach condo vacation for my non-diving family and my non-diving sister and her non-diving family. (Though I'm sure I'll manage to get a dive or two in...)

Availability of food/groceries/booze on the island?

Appreciate any thoughts or insights folks might have.

L.C. is great diving. The Club is an OK condo. Beach is small but nice. Stores are very limited.

Not the best idea. LC is beautiful, but not everyone's cup of tea. There is very little to do on LC apart from dive, birdwatch or go fishing. There is just one small general and grocery store, a few restaurants and a liquor store. I think that for non divers, Grand Cayman or Coz would be better Carribean choices. You could still get in some dives and your family would have a lot more to do.

While I have never stayed at the Club I have friends who have several times and they really like the place. As a matter of fact we have a group going at the end of this year (2012) and they are going and will rent the condo again rather than stay at Little Cayman Beach Resort itself. You will probably have more privacy there for your group. The folks who book for LCBR also book that place but don't push it too hard. They told me the people who own them like a little income from them but don't want them overused.

Anyway, as far as food goes, you will find it pretty tough to get much variety. But if you stay at the Club you can get on the meal plan at the LCBR and the food there is excellent! They serve buffet style and there is always plenty of choices and again it's very good. I don't think you have to do all three meals with them but you'd certainly want dinner with them. A lot of folks take the two meal plan with breakfast and dinner.

But like others have said, there's not much to do other than read, relax, and dive but if that's OK with everyone and reading and relaxing will fit their bill, then Little Cayman would be a great place.

I have been to Little Cayman a number of times. There is one small general store on the island and the selection is limited. There is one restaurant. I think you can eat on some of the resorts for a fee. I stayed at Little Cayman Beach Resort, I noticed the local vicar ate at LCBR. I don't think he had other options. I suppose the natives make arrangements for their food somehow maybe through the resorts.

I would think that if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Grand Cayman, you would want to stay at Cayman Brac, which I understand has a selection of stores and restaurants. If you like hustle and bustle and night life, Grand Cayman is probably your place.

This island is one of the "very special' places and offers world class diving. However, if you are not a diver - there is little to do. Wife and non-diving family will not like your decision :( I do not recommend the condo route unless you are bringing a cooler of food from the mainland. You would be better off on 7 mile beach on Grand Cayman.

Ray- when are you going?

Week before Easter, if that's where we go. Sounds like probably not a great location to bring 8 non-divers on vacation.

I believe your original idea of Grand Cayman was a better one for all the non-divers
