May have been a fluke. Been to LCBR 5 times, last was about 2 years ago. I've never thought the food at LCBR was as good as some people rave about, but it's always been pretty good, occasionally outstanding, but never terrible. But, it depends a lot who's cooking. Last time we were there the head chef was excellent, but the person who took over when he was off wasn't all that great. If that head chef had been away on vacation and we were stuck with the other guy, after a week of that I might have said terrible too.

Last Jan, we stayed in an OF "Club Condo," at LCBR, a little newer than the Conch Club condos and thought the place was one of the best we have stayed in anywhere in the Caribbean. The little grocery store on LC had everything we needed for breakfast (yogurt, milk, juice, coffee, cereal), snacks, and drinks. I can't recall the owner's name, but he was pleasant and delivered our items to our condo in his pick up.

We did lunches at LCBR between dives and thought the food was fine; we also had our first night's dinner there and it was good, too. However, I'd re-think your dinner meal plan. The other resorts on LC are either within bicycle distance and/or they will pick you up for free. It's a great way to see the other places and meet some other folks. Gladys Howard at Pirate's Point trained with Julia Child and James Beard and is an outstanding chef. Southern Cross had a very good seafood buffet.

I just returned from Little Cayman and the diving was wonderful as usual!

This was our 4th time there and we've stayed at Southern Cross Club and Pirates Point. Both places had great food. People do have different tastes, but there is always something good to eat since a variety of dishes are available at each meal.

There are not many places to buy food as was mentioned in the previous posts. And, the entire island must wait for the ship to deliver their orders! In fact, one afternoon activity is to wait for the barge and then ride your bike down to the dock. Within minutes, every resort, and the residents, drive over with a pick-up truck for their deliveries. It is something else to do other than diving, bike riding, reading...

We did not experience many insects on this trip. The early evening had some mosquitoes and we did need DEET for protection, so bring some. I got some itchy "bites" and bumps but I think it was from the water. Every once in awhile I would feel a sting on my hands or neck while diving. (maybe jellyfish larvae?) It would become red and very itchy. I may be more sensitive than some people but other divers did get the same thing.

We were in Bonaire in November and the bugs were terrible! We couldn't even sit outside at night, even covered with DEET. It was hot and the insects were numerous! I've gone to Bonaire at other times of the year with no insect problems. (January & February)

I love both Bonaire and Little Cayman and would definitely go again!

I can't imagine anyone staying at Pirates Point or Southern Cross ever saying that they preferred the food at LCBR. I have been to all three and the food at LCBR was the worst!

We were at LCBR this past July (the same time as Diver 85). There was a relatively new Chef there named Anthony. He had worked all over the world, as well as at some of my favorites here in New York. Every meal was absolutely wonderful. He had the staff go out and pick coconuts one morning so that they could be grated for our coconut shrimp one evening. Every night in addition to terrific mainl dishes and deserts, we looked forward to one of his outstanding soups, many of which were so yummy you could have eaten them alone for dinner and been completely happy. I suspect posters who experienced the "worst" meals there were there "pre-Anthony". We're all gong back this July and hope that Anthony is still there. Not one negative opinion noted among the guests with regard to the food while we were there. Rave reviews all around, so it couldn't have been the same chef.
I think I'll email them and see if it's still Anthony. I hope so!
Stay tuned................
