Limited Dive Time In Cancun Area- Suggestions

Hi Everyone...
We are heading to Cancun in just over a week staying for 7 days - we want to dive at least a few dives while we are there, BUT..... we don't want to spend a ton of time traveling between our resort in Cancun and dive sites b/c we are traveling with another couple who are not divers and want to spend time with them as well.

We don't have much on our agenda thus far, but we have talked about going to Isla Mujeres for a day so possibly a dive there?

Curious about the water temps in May. We dive mainly in the Caribbean and I am pretty comfortable in my full 1mm at about 80+ .... otherwise I add my 3 mm shorty in the mix- and then I'm a REAL happy camper, but it puts a dent in my packing space

We are first timers to Cancun so we are looking for suggestions on not only dive sites but dive companies as well. We are both Advanced Open Water- husband is also Wreck & Rescue Dive, working on Divemaster so we are up for just about anything.

Scorpio Divers hands down. Ben and Jorge run a pro outfit and provide pick up and drop off at your hotel. They are the only dive outfit that covers the entire area and really make the dives special.

There are a couple wrecks in Cancun and another in Puerto Morelos. The reefs are outstanding and under rated in Cancun area. We saw two sharks on a recent dive. My Fiancé gets a bit cold and a 3MM seemed to work well for her. I use a light 1MM and I'm just fine with the water temp. We were just there Apr 17-24. We dove with Scorpio every day but one (Chichen Itza.) I couldn't say enough good things about them.

You'll get lots of people recommending scoprio divers. Manta Divers also has a pretty good reputation. Sue and I dove with Alvaro from Always Diving and can't say anything but good things about him. I don't think Odys is correct in saying that Scorpio is the only op that 'covers the entire area', since I know that both Manta and Alvaro also cover the entire Cancun/Playa/Cozumel area, including the cenotes.
When are you going to be there?

Thanks! I will add these places to my list of places to look up. Do you make reservations before you arrive in Cancun? We usually do nothing but dive on our vacations so its always booked well in advance, but this trip we are kinda playing it by ear- traveling with non-divers we don't want to "schedule" them around our dive schedule. If this is a busy dive time I will book a 2 tank dive just so we can add it in the log

Dirty-Dog - I heard good things about Manta too. My bad, I meant to say they go as far South as the border of Belize (Chinchorro Banks) and do specail deep ocean trips to see the sail fish. Not sure anyone else out of Cancun does that regularly.

Dang! Okay, I'm jealous...

Yes, you can contact them prior to going. You will have your dive trip set and then not have to worry about it. Except of course, the fish tacos and margueritas! But that is a given...
