Big lift is associated with big negative things -- there is rarely a reason for a single tank diver to need 40 lbs of lift.
I do not resemble that remark. Plus what is a big wing? I have a couple HP130's, with H valves, I use for single tank diving. I had a Oxycheq Signature Series 30lb wing that would let my rig sink at the beginning of the dive. I was into my drysuit for buoyancy. I switched to a 40lb Mach V wing and am much happier knowing I can toss my rig out of the boat and not have it sink. Funny though because I use a 40 lb wing for my double HP100's. Difference is no extra lead weight, and I use an aluminum plate for doubles. Both setups get backup lights attached, two first stage regs, and a can light.

It is actually fairly hard to tell the difference between a 30lb Mach V wing and a 40lb Mach V wing.

Once again, learned some things on SB, thanks! It is clear with my typical diving profiles I never really had to worry so much about this topic since I think the most basic BC's provide enough lift for the conditions (incl. suit, tank etc.) I dive.

I've always known my 24lb lift Zeagle was probably only qualified for the diving I do, and I've never really had any interest so far in dry-suit or even 7mm wetsuit diving. But, it is clear I've never truly understood WHY my Zeagle wasn't qualified for those dives.

I'm one of those big males with a HP130 in cold water that really appreciates a 40# Mach V wing. As Peter_C says, it's pretty close in size to the 30#.

For tropical diving, I don't need all that lift, so I use an 18# wing. Less weight. Less drag. Easier to vent.
