Hi All,

I have been reading this forum on and off for a bit but this is the first time I've posted. I'd like to ask all of those diving mothers out there, how do you do it?

My partner and I are thinking about starting a family - sooner rather than later. I really want to be a mother, but I'm scared that I'll have to give up diving until the children leave home! When is it safe to go back to diving after giving birth? Also how do you manage on diving holidays - take the in-laws to babysit or are there holidays with child minding included available?

Basically, how do women juggle being a wife, mother, daughter, worker and diver? Also, do men worry about this?!

Please help me!

Now I'm by no means an expert but I was diving this summer with 2 couples who both have babies. On the first day, the husbands came out on the boat and did a couple of dives. The second day, the wives came on the boat with hubbies looking after the kids. I think probably what worked about it was there were 2 couples. That way the guys still hung out (with the babies) while the wives were diving.
I believe they also participated in a few shore dives but I'm not sure if one couple babysat while the other went diving or if it was again the women diving then the men diving.

When I was married and my kids were small, I didn't dive very much. When I did dive, I was usually teaching and my wife looked after the kids. Other times we'd go with my brother and his family. We would trade off watching the kids, allowing everyone to dive. In most cases, either Dennis, Donna or Natasha would watch the kids because I was usually needed to watch less experienced divers. Everyone got to dive by working together.

Recently, on the Crystal River trip, Victoriawtx came with her husband and small child. They traded off snorkeling, with husband going one day, wife the other.
