OK fellow ScubaBoard members, lets have Meet and Greet.

I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas.

When: A date not all jammed up by the holidays.
Where: Easy for the majority to get to.
Place: A restaurant, dive park or picnic area.
Dive: Should it include a dive?
Guest Speaker?

What say you?

Could be fun. I haven't made it out to socialize with the SB peeps in quite a while. :)

Are we talking a topside get together, or something like the Wrinkles dives of yore? Laguna and Catalina both worked well for those in the past...

Could be either- I'd say lets pick somewhere in the middle and have a dry get-together.

Probably best to wait till January so the holiday rush is over.

Whats in the middle between Catalina and Laguna?

And by "dry" I sure hope you mean no diving and not adult beverage free!

Just bustin your chops Tom - I think this is a great idea. :D

How about a dry meet & greet on a saturday, and a Sunday dive for those who want to get wet? We could meet in Long Beach area, then check some of the local charter boats near there or go to the dive park, or beach dive Laguna on Sunday.

It's a SCUBAboard meet and greet....diving has to be part of the agenda, imo! Last spring, a group of us got together, did a couple dives in Laguna, and then had a beach picnic with food that we had prepared. It was a lot of fun and really simple. Something like that could be pretty easy to plan.

I'd like to join! I haven't been to ANY kind of diving get-together in ages. At least a year. I've been spending a lot more time on SB lately, and would love to meet some of you that I encounter here (and reconnect with those I've met before).

My vote would be for it to be at a place/time that could involve a dive, for those that want to get wet. But because beach conditions are so unpredictable, make it just an option, not the center event. The last two times I planned to join a group dive get-together, everyone bailed because the conditions were bad.

My vote would also be for it to not involve a ferry ride (Catalina). LOVE Catalina, but that adds an element of complication, y'know?

If we've got folks from Ventura County (me :)) all the way down to San Diego, then it seems to me the most central point would be Laguna. That should be drivable for all. A more northerly alternative could be Vets in Redondo - a popular dive site, that's for sure.

I kind of like this plan. There are several members that don't, won't or can't dive locally and a dry meet & greet will all to attend. Depending on the numbers involved, we could charter one or two of the Long Beach boats for Sunday or shoot over to the Casino Dive Park.

There are plenty of dive sites on the Palos Verdes peninsula and its pretty much dead center between Ventura and Laguna. We have North, West and South facing sites.... so usually there is always somewhere to dive.

Marineland would be a great place to meet up. It has plenty of facilities to take advantage of "freshwater showers, picnic tables, bars, restaurants and even a hotel for those who get carried away with the libations". If conditions are bad there, its only a short drive to the other sites on the peninsula and if all else fails Veterans park is only a quick jaunt north. A guest speaker would be great. Maybe we could convince Dr.Bill to come out for a dive on the Big Island.

I agree with keeping it away from the holidays. Maybe the first or second week after New Years? Though I think I'm probably a lot younger then most of you, I would still like to finally meet the people behind the online avatars and our mutual love of the ocean should bridge any generational gaps:D

Ya know, If we do this right, we might even get an equipment company (or two) to sponsor the event.
