Got to see eight of these guys yesterday, along with four sea turtles, and a huge school of baracuda. All this on a
snorkle trip with Scuba Du. My GF dives but not everyday, this was Sweet.....
This morning we made it out, got our first dive in and found out the harbor closed. By the time we finished our
dive the front had passed and out came the sun, off to dive two Chankanaab. First dive Palancar Bricks, awesome.

Very cool.

I didn't realize they had lemon sharks outside of Florida.

I've never seen a Lemon shark here neither. Seen Bull sharks, Great Hammerheads, Scalloped Hammerheads, Black Tips, Nurse Sharks, Guitar Sharks, (1) Tiger Shark,....Diamonds International Sharks, Time Share Sharks....but no Lemons.... there are makos here and a great white ( 15ft) was caught off Playa Del Carmen a few years back.

Wow, that's quite a census. Wikipedia thinks that they belong there tho, at least at times...

The last Time Memo and I saw a Lemon Shark in Cozumel was 1994 at Punta Sur Sur

Are you sure they were Lemon Sharks????

We'll, both of our memories are fading fast but it was a large shark that we checked out in the Human Book as a Lemon Shark. And we got to see it a long time as it was more interested in us than we were in it. It followed us through swim throughs at Punta Sur Sur until we decided to back off the wall on the shallow side. We had only one customer with us who messed his pants during the 15 minute encounter. Of course at the time we were the only ones that ever went there and I guess he finally got scared off by someone.

So, yes Christi, we are damned sure it was a Lemon Shark. But I would question seeing groups of them as according to the Human Book they are supposed to be solitary. But we have had groups see lots of small black tips this past week, more than usual.

I wasn't questioning you Dave, I am questioning Darol seeing a large group of them while snorkeling. I am also thinking they may have been black tips. My apologies for the misunderstanding.
