I have used both the DR led 500 and Hid 10W and in my opinion the HID is way brighter, not at all comparable. However I have never seen the Salvo LED 12w so I was wondering what's the deal with those and are they really as bright as 10W HID's.
I am asking cause I have to climb down allot dry caves here (Cabarete) to get to the water and the HID are too fragile.

Any info would be much apreciated

I just ordered the Salvo 12 W LED, for the same reason as the reliability and toughness of the bulb. They had one in the shop where I ordered mine and it defiantly seemed as bright as the 10 Watt HID.

The difference in the brightness is the DR 500 is 500 Lumens, the Salvo 12 Watt Led is 750 Lumens. So it will defiantly be brighter then the DR. I though however am not a cave diver mainly wrecks and deep walls in the Pacific.

I've seen nails driven into boards with HID heads from Greenforce, and I've seen boards beaten and complete lights thrown against walls 6ft away with Salvo HIDs. Both done while the bulbs were burning.

Exactly what are you doing to your lights that would stress your HID lights more than that?

Regardless, if LED seems right for you, go for it.

I think an arguement could be made to ask you the same question. Holy crap what kind of divers you hanging with anyway? :rofl3:

I followed a thread a couple of weeks back (I think on Digg) that told of some researchers at a university that had discovered a new way to make LEDs at a fraction of the cost of what it takes now. They said that we should see greatly reduced prices for equipment using LEDs in the not-to-far future. If this proves true...it could really put a crimp on the HID market.

One can hope!!!

LOL! Hanging with the wrong crowd apparently!

I have a Salvo Rebel 12W LED and the illumination is comparable to a 10W HID. The LED seems to have a whiter light and a smaller light head.

I really like my Salvo LED

A friend of mine has a Salvo 12W LED and when I was using a DR 10W HID there wasn't a noticeable difference in brightness, but there was a noticeable difference in penetration. I would get the LED because you won't have to replace the emitter unlike HID where you have to periodically replace the bulb.

So did the LED or HID appear to penetrate farther? I've seen pics and vids where the HID seems to have a smaller and brighter hot spot, but the LED was more uniform in shape and brightness.

The HID penetrated farther.

I probably should have specified that in my earlier post.
