Diver's Direct has teamed up with Gander Mountain stores, and now has two Orlando locations. It looks like these have staying power.

Happy diving!

Not anymore, that relationship was terminated.

Actually a dive shop here in NC recently did just that, new store. The deal was to the first 100 people.

Pay $100 and get 10% off
Pay $500 and get 20% off
Pay $1,000 get 30% off

Don't know if that was a one time payment or an annual thing. They are not that close to me so the chances of my ever going there are slim to none.

It is an ANNUAL fee, per person. Not a family membership or anything like that. As to the blessing of the manufacturers that have the minimum pricing agreement, I don't think they have found out.

And, I'm not making this up. It is on their webpage. God told them to open a dive center. I'm not making fun of them or anything like that but it seems to be an unfair advantage over the rest of the shops in the area.

So, here's my view:
a) You can't buy Halcyon gear and SP regs at leisurepro, etc. anyway.
I didn't read this whole discussion so perhaps what I will say has been said. I not only bought my SP regs from LP (at half the LDS price) but LP also services my SP regs annually for three years now and continues to give me free parts with my servicing. Just a point of reference.;) Scubapro50 originally wrote on page three....."If you had purchased it from Leasurepro (who is not an aurthorized dealer) then you will pay dearly for the service." Incorrect information can be very close to lies and slander and that's how rumors are started. The cost is $39.99 for all stages and free parts too. Beat that....

If you buy anything off the internet you may have a problem getting the stuff serviced. I know several dive shops that if they suspect you of purchasing new equipment online then they don't want anything to do with it. One shop owner I know made the statement "if they want to save a few bucks on it fine .... "sent it back to where they bought it when it breaks or needs service". The same shop owner loves people that purchase used equipment off ebay. No warranty means he can charge them for all parts and service. Buying online whether from Leasurepro or ebay might save you a some money in the short run but over a period of time it may cost you more. Drop by several local shops in your area and see what they carry. Talk with the shop owner and ask if there are any discounts he can give you. It's not uncommon to have a shop knock off 10% or 20% because you're a student, or a member of a local dive club, or in one case I know because you work for the fire dept. and the LDS gives discounts to all firemen because he sold the department the equipment and he fills their tanks for free.
These people are idiots with poor customer service. They are WHY I don't usually go into LDS's and WHY I ended up going to LP and Scuba Toys and others online for my gear. Too bad they don't realize it. Sorry for being so blunt but really, evolve or die off.;)

That said, one LDS close to me knows where I bought my gear and they have gone out of their way to give me good customer service and to be kind. I have started buying from them. Go figure.

Re: Gander / Divers Direct

Interesting. Which side terminated it? Why? Where can I find more about this?

I purchase locally and off the internet - I feel no guilt either way.

I just bought a dry suit for my wife - locally there weren't many options (its Florida) so the whole argument about trying it on, seeing it first hand doesn't hold any water. I'm surprised at the number of stores that want me to special order something - If I need to do that I'll take the internet.

Now my tanks I bought locally, found the ones I wanted, price was fair - a bit higher - but fair. No problem, I put my money down. Same thing with my wife's backplate, wing, and harness. Fair price - bought locally.

I also just moved to Florida last February I owned most of my gear before I moved here, if a shop gave me trouble about that I would definately go somewhere else.

I've bought something from just about every dive shop in town. I've never had any other hobby where people examined where I got something. Forunately the shops here don't seem to do much of that yet. Its also pretty amazing when I can call Scubatoys or DiveTank and get better customer service then when I speak to someone in person.

Not sure what this all means but its just my experience buying scuba gear for the last 15 months.

Here in Fairbanks we have 1 LDS, they are pretty good about matching internet pricing. I don't ask them to match it to the penny , I DO ask that they bring it down to internet price plus what I figure shiping would be, and they take care of me.
Why I support my LDS is: I took my SP MK25 in to have the yoke replaced with a DIN
connection, after it was instaled, it was leak tested, seat was bad and the PSI was going up as it was sitting there. 10 min. later new parts were instaled and prob fixed.
Get LP to do that. I only paid for the DIN valve and at 10% off cuz I buy most of my stuff there. not even a instaltion fee, N/C for the seat,SP warrenty, because I didn't buy from LP.
I am going to buy a posidon xtreme reg from them in a month or so and there price is LESS than LP.
I would say I have a good LDS here.
And yes I do buy online, it kinda hard to find Rob Allen spearguns here in AK.
The internet is a great way to save $$, but the last thing I want is my LDS to go away.

Dive safe

Now if the water wasn't so hard here life would be good. -35f today

the dive shop that i used to work with marked EVERYTHING up 60%. didnt matter what it was. thier computer automatically added that profit when they entered it into inventory.

Hey Mr. Hound. I was curious too, and called up to Lake Mary and spoke with the scuba manager at Gander Mountain. This is not an official from company HQ, but here is the word. Gander Mountain will continue to sell scuba gear. After Feb. 1, they will no longer have it as a Diver's Direct store within their own store. They will still purchase equipment through Diver's Direct. The manager told me that this was a "no hard feelings" business decision.

My main reason for calling them was to see if they had Nitrox set up yet. "Not yet" was the answer.

BEAT THAT ... SURE CAN ....... say you are diving and for some strange reason your regulator starts acting funny ... I just find a Scubapro dealer and show him my "lifetime" warranty card and he fix it right there. I don't have to go home, pay $20 in shipping fees and wait 3 weeks to get the regulator back ..... How much is it to ship your regulator to and from Leasurepro anyway? ..... Are they "certified Scubapro repair techinations" ..... I don't know. Do they get the Scubapro service bulletins concerning problems and how to fix them ..... or the continuning education that Scubapro offers to aurthorized shop personel. I have owned a Scubapro Mk 10 for almost 20 years and had it serviced every other year. Last time I took it in Bill asked if I had had any problems ..... he read a service bulletin about a possible problem with older piston 1st stages and how to fix it. By taking it down to my Scubapro shop I can put a face and a name on the person who will be working on my regulator. Should there ever be a problem then I know who to ask for. Last June I had a regulator in for service and we were waiting on parts to arive ..... no problem ... had a dive scheduel and the shop said if my regulator wasn't ready in time they would loan me a new one at no charge ........ WOULD LEASUREPRO DO THAT FOR YOU ?
