The problem with Darryl is he doesnt see the value in the LDS tryin to help him, and giving him a fair price for a service...
Actually, it's up to him to determine whether it's a fair price. Nature of the market, after all.

You guys seem to think that I am mean and nasty to all my customers, which is incorrect.
With that kind of public attitude, who would want to probe further? Think a diver who just moved to your area and needs his old gear serviced would? Or the one whose husband bought her a gift from LP or another LDS?

That "screw you if you didn't buy from me" attitude can give an otherwise neutral potential customer a very strong incentive to cut you out of the process altogether, just to spite you.

I never said "screw you if you didnt buy from me". I would not, however, do something for this customer for free who is not my customer. Its as Mike said a few pages ago: You start doing this, and you're doin little things for free all day.

People come into out shop, and ask for us to setup their regs that they bought at LP. We charge for this service. We are accepting some liability, and we need to charge for our technician taking the time to set up and leak check, and inspect a regulator setup that a customer got online...

Same goes for a neckseal, or wrist seals, or anything else that people who would like us to do.

Its a service, and we charge for it. You dont expect to drive your car to a mechanic and ask him to change your tire for you, and not charge you do you? If you are not a customer of his, and never bought tires there, he's goin to charge you a nominal fee...

Same goes with the LDS. You support them, and they support you.

Sorry for the attitude, but I tend to get carried away sometimes...

Then why the "hope you screw up the neck seal" comment?

Of course you do. I doubt any reasonable person would expect otherwise. We seem to be in violent agreement on that, at least.

(oops, wrong key)
You sure can't benefit financially by blackballing them.

But, what's the attitude when you take care of that customer?

Are you happy to have the opportunity to do some business with them in the hopes of earning more of their future business?

Or do you make it clear that they were wrong in buying from LP in the first place and charge them extra to teach them a lesson?

No, I dont make them feel bad for buying from LP. yes, I do wish they had given me a chance first, but now, they are in the shop, and I will take care of them. This customer needs someone to service their regs, and maybe get tanks filled, and maybe someday I can sell him something else. Thats what customer service is all about...

Then why the "hope you screw up the neck seal" comment?

I was feeling feisty... No other reason.

You were the one complaining about $25 . You make me sick. I dislike customers like you. This board has no intelligent discussion right now. None. You waste everyones time with this crap??? Who's the intelligent one. <snip>

I didn't see any complaint from Darryl, only an inquiry as to the going rate and justification. He even admitted that you must pay for experience and the fact that they are assuming the risk.

My first canidate for the ignore list.

Lubold8431,

Why don't you tell me the dive shop you work at so I don't make the mistake of bothering you with my poor attitude. I will be sure to stay away.

I dont think you would come down to my neck of the woods anyways... Stay up there in Canada where you belong...

Wow, thats a really ignorant comment. Its because of Americans like you that the rest of Americans get a bad rap around the world.
