Hi,

Just a noob question

Since I recently changed to a new drysuit with the Si-tech Quick neck - will my spare seals that are for the necktite still fit?
I also have some Waterproof neck seals and they are for the Necktite - will they fit in the Quick Neck?

Thanks

Yes they will fit. The seals for the si-tech quickneck are the same for the 1st gen version of the ring system, the necktite, as well as the 3rd generation, the o-rust.

The Waterproof version of the seals are also compatible across all 3 generations of the si-tech neck ring system.

The difference between the S-Tech neck seals and the Waterproof ones are the Waterproof seals maybe a little thinner, at least they feel that way to me, and have a baffle that is positioned to the rear when installed. The baffle supposedly is to increase comfort but in reality it is debatable if it has any practical benefit.

Thank you!

The waterproof seal is thinner but is it more durable?
I haven't used mine yet.

Don't know....I am still using the original Si-Tech silicone neck seal that came with my drysuit. Before moving back to the US from Europe, I stocked up on spare wrist and neck seals as they are at least half the cost in Europe than in the US...I purchased some Si-Tech and Waterproof neck seals, but have not had the need to use them yet (touch wood). The Waterproof seals just feel slightly thinner than the Si-Tech.

I also have no experienced based opinion on the Waterproof neck seal rear baffle, but it looks wonky to me.

I think you will be ok...just don't dig your fingernails into the seal when putting your suit on or taking it off. Also, gently stretch the opening of the neck seal as you gently push/pull your head through it.

If there was an outstanding issue with either the Si-Tech or the Waterproof seals, I am sure folks would be posting about them here on ScubaBoard or on the many dive related pages on Facebook, but I have not seen anything anywhere that indicates folks are having issues with seal durabilty.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

There used to be problems with the silicone seals but Sitech made them better and better over time.
Also the waterproof seals jsed to be made in the same Sitech factory, maybe still are.

And now I think Sitech started making new type of seals, haven't tried them yet.

Thanks for the answers.

Yes, you have your history about Si-Tech and Waterproof seals correct, and yes, Si-Tech has begun making seals from TPE (thermoplastic elastomer).

Both silicone and TPE materials have similar properties in that they are elastic, hypoallergenic, etc. TPE is apparently more cost effective to make and easier to recycle, silicone, once heated and cured cannot be remolded, it doesn't melt...with enough heat it will just burn. TPE can be melted down and reformed....among other things, this reduces the amount of waste being produced in the manufacturing process. The advantage of silicone is it handles compression better and returns to its original thickness better than TPE; this could be an issue with TPE seals that have been installed on a ring system for a long time....they may not seal well if removed and re-installed.

The shape of the Si-Tech TPE wrist seals is similar to the shape of the Waterproof wrist seals:

I prefer the bottleneck style seal that Si-Tech produces as I feel it makes better contact and thus a better seal with my wrist/forearm. Unfortunately, Si-Tech currently only makes this style seal in silicone:
