Freza...so far 10 dives...I've seen more divers than Peligic's....I have 25 more dives....I hope it improves. Avril...is my dive guide and seems really good...just not much here yet!

I was there quite a while ago. We had numerous hammerhead sightings and dived in the middle of a school on one occasion, but they were generally very deep, between 35m and 55m. I have seen them school in Sipadan in shallower (~20-25m) water. But if your goal is to see hammerheads, Cocos Island is the destination. They are pretty much guaranteed there, you will see them at relatively shallow depths (our deepest dive was 36m), you will see them up close, and there is a lot of other shark and pelagic life to see.

My goal is to see anything....I saw a Manta today...15 dives...there is not much here in the water....and I was in Sipadan in 04...not much there either.

No luck after 15 dives. Where have all the hammerheads been? Is it just your group or all the other dive groups as well. Last week they showed hammerhead videos every night (videos of earlier morning dives) & there were at least 2 sightings every day.

freza....One group saw about 20 hammerheads the other day. My group saw one at about 35 meters.....But the thing that gets me...is there is little or no sealife...corals (except Coral Cafe) are beige or brown.....18 dives saw the devil rays twice. The people are great here and Malaysia is a wonderful country....I have been to Sipadan also....the diving does not come anwhere close to Raja....Palau and a few others I've been to.

Travelnsj,

Remind me never to go diving with you - you must be jinxed :-)

I've been to Sipadan 4 times and it has never ceased to amaze me.

Rickg...I have heard great things about Sipadan and Layang Layang....all I can say is I've spent $$$$$$ coming to these locations....not much sea life compared to Palau, Raja Ampat, Christmas Island (kirimati), Fakarava, Rangiora etc...(Heck I think I've seen almost as much in Cozumel)....I've seen the school of hammerheads here in LL 3 times from a distance, out of 25 dives....what makes me sick is the money it cost to come to LL for 12 days....I could of gone to Palau for 3 weeks or back to Lembeh and Raja/Papua!

Have never been to Layang Layang, Rajah Ampat, Fakarava, or Rangiora and have found all of these places expensive to travel to from San Diego. Palau, Truk and Yap are also expensive to travel to from San Diego but luckily when we went I was stationed in Japan so it was much cheaper. Have been to Truk, Palau, Sangalaki, Sipadan, Guam, HI, Christmas Island (Kiribati), Yap, Okinawa, Lankayan, Manado/Bunaken/Lembeh/Sangihe Islands and Sea of Cortez (La Paz area) and have to say that Sipadan never fails to amaze me. I've only seen hammerheads there 1 trip out of 4 but everything else made up for it.

Well I wish I could say I found something amazing about Malaysian diving. When I was in Sipadan in Sept of 04, I had 30’ Vis all I saw were Turtles, whitetips, schooling Jacks and some muck stuff in 35 dives. Just finished my Diving in LL 30 dives. There is not a lot of Marine life here. After spending over 15K on these two trips the diving in Malaysia does not stack up to Indonesia or Micronesia and I passed on my 9th trip to Palau to come to LL this spring. This is my favorite country in Asia love the infrastructure, the people etc….but the diving I found is anything but amazing….I have also dove Oahu and Guam…nothing to speak about that diving but I would rate it above my experiences in Malaysia.
