Basically it means that some of the walls we used to dive down are now cliffs to be climbed down, hence the reference to rope work.

Yeah today you can make a dive a dual sport, rappelling and diving or base jumping and diving.
But then you have to climb back up so... I guess that makes it a triathlon....:D
