Just joined the PDRA, probably be diving LN mostly, Iwas wanting to know if anyone has maps for these quarries. I have not received my membership yet so I can't access the member page to see if it has maps. Also what suits do most divers use at LN probably diving May thru Oct. for now.
thanks,

I have a map around here somewhere that I will try to find and scan it for you.
The bottom temps are about 48 degrees year round and the surface temps around those months vary from mid 70's to mid
80's. As far as the suit goes I have seen people use all types from 3 mil to dry suits. I did quite a few dives there in a 5 mil and was OK above 40 feet or so. A 7 mil was a little better and I could stand going down to the bottom for a short while but I would be lying if I said I was warm. A dry suit has made diving there much easier for me but one of the guys I dive with uses a 7 mil year around and never complains so it's pretty subjective.

I was there yesterday and the temp. at the cruiser was 44 degrees my computor said it was 50 but we didn't stay at the cruiser long it was towards the end of the dive. This time of year a dry suit is the best way to enjoy the quarry. In the summer a 3 mil as long as you stay above 30' or so will do. But at the cruiser it is always 42-44 degrees. Viz was about 15-20' in the shallows and about 10' at depth.

Looks like all the quarys are holding about the same temp. Temp at Fantasy Lake was 44 at 58ffw Sat.

Bob, Actually on the cruiser it is normally 42 degrees so it was a little warmer. I guess it is because the lake is turning over. I'll be glad when the vis clears up but then it should be 42 top to bottom.

You might get Lake Norman Dive Shop make a copy of their map of the quarry. They made me a color copy on their printer which was nice of them. It shows the location of two dozen items on the surface and bottom so you can decide which way you want to go once you're down there. It also saves time going to the correct buoy before descending if you're looking for a specific site to dive.
