Yet another reason to live in Evanston....
They have one designated entry on Greenwood Beach which is available when the beach is open for swimming during the summer:

"Scuba Diving and the use of masks and snorkels is only permitted on Greenwood Beach by certified divers with required equipment. Required equipment includes at least one other certified diver with them, a buoyancy vest, scuba certification card, diver down flag, and submersible pressure gauge to enter."

"7-11-4. - ...no person shall enter the water from the City beaches except during the period beginning at 10:30 a.m. on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and ending as set forth below, ... Greenwood Street Beach 10:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. through July 31. 10:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. August 1 until and including Labor Day"

The prohibition on snorkeling (unless you are a diver) seems a little bizarre.

Ever since my first open water dives in Lake Michigan I have been amazed that so little diving is done in this great body of water.

Tonight - glassy smooth - looks easy doesn't it?

Lake Superior was like that yesterday, I got way out there! (Hunters Beach in Copper Harbor)

There was even a heart in the water saying “come on in, the water is fine” :)

Around 30 feet I looked out at the other planet like rock slabs that kept going and going and said this is good and turned back around 😂

I need to figure out how to work my little cheap camera for underwater photos, tomorrow is supposed to be another calm day!

But Lake Michigan around Empire, by the old cannery, I want to do that soon!

The water is so warm this summer 🙌

Well not so good today.

Its hard to plan for Lake Michigan. You get your group setup, boat's ship-shape and you are ready to go. And then the day is clear with high winds ...

Your Labor Day dive plans? Maybe not ...

Tonight
North winds 20 to 25 kt becoming northeast 10 to 20 kt after midnight. Mostly clear. Waves 5 to 8 ft occasionally to 10 ft subsiding to 3 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.
Monday
East winds 10 to 20 kt. Partly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Waves 3 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft subsiding to 2 to 4 ft by the afternoon.

People are wusses and don’t like cold.
Yup. I can attest to that. Hate the cold. 5mm when the water is below 82F.

I went back downstate to work this week and do non upper peninsula things.

But I’m going back up 9th-18th to dive Marquette and Keweenaw. This is all I do for time off and I’ve learned to do it all in chunks of time up there because you don’t know what you’re going to get. Gotta give it time and go with the flow.

I get what you mean, it was crystal clear, 85 degrees one day in CH - and the next day it was 67 degrees, and a scene out of a movie where they close all their little extra protecty windows from the storm. 🌊

The Great Lakes feel how they want to feel, and they can do that, they’re allowed.

Lake Superior has big feelings sometimes and she’ll tell you how it is. That’s why they call her Superior.

She’s like, you think I forgot about those mine run offs that are poisoning my whitefish? No no, today I remembered all about it, and I feel some type of way, and imma bite you if you try to swim in me.

I mean, valid, definitely valid, 💯 .

I’m going to pray about it ☦️🙌

I’m in the Chicago area. When the local news mentions beach hazard warnings for the local beaches, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be too rough for wreck diving.
