That's always a problem with digital camera. For awhile, point and shoot cameras are being replaced every 18 months or so but DSLR shelf life is quite a bit longer. Now it seems that Canon/Nikon especially started to roll out newer and better DSLR faster and faster. I would love to get a D2X but I would have to sell my kidney for that. D90 looks very promising as well and that should be quite a bit more afforadable, hopefully even more so than the S3.
